Support Worker (James) in Partick
16 hour shift per week, shift pattern - 11am to 11am (includes overnight support). Male and driver required.
Personal Assistants (Support Workers) have the most important role within Enable by making a positive difference every day to the lives of the people we support. James is an older gentleman who loves his kilts, listening to music and singing. He enjoys living an independent life within his own home with support from staff 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. He requires a worker who is a driver to allow him to explore the community within and outside Glasgow and to accompany him on holiday trips.
James needs support with aspects of daily living, medication, finances, domestic household duties, shopping, and activities. He has a mild learning disability and mental health issues, so the worker must be very patient, understanding, and empathetic. The worker should be able to listen to concerns, remain calm and reassuring during challenging shifts, and work within a dynamic team to bring new ideas for James.
Responsibilities:
- Assist James with personal care and daily living tasks
- Support medication administration and financial management
- Help with domestic household duties, shopping, and activities
- Drive James to community events and holiday trips
- Provide positive behavioural support and reassurance when needed
- Listen to James's concerns and maintain calm communication
- Collaborate with a dynamic team, attend meetings, and update support strategies and risk assessments
Qualifications:
- Male candidate with a valid driver's licence
- Patient, understanding, and empathetic
- Ability to work 16 hours per week on a shift pattern from 11am to 11am, including overnight support
- Willingness to support a person with a mild learning disability and mental health needs
