1st Step Solutions are seeking a General Maintenance Operative (GMO) to work for a national M&E contractor in a mobile position around the Coventry area.

Location: Coventry area (mobile based role). Key sites: Manchester (2 days per week), North London (1 day per week), Additional London areas (2 days per week for fire door inspection / wider support).

Salary: Up to £39k.

Working hours / Flexibility: 40hr salaried position (Typical site attendance between 9am - 3pm, approx. 5hrs on site; flexibility is essential to meet operational & client requirements).

Project: Provide planned / reactive maintenance support & general building fabric assistance.

Duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Hot water systems
  • Water hygiene / domestic hot water
  • Heating system inspections
  • Air conditioning / ventilation
  • Fire alarm testing
  • Emergency lighting
  • General electrical safety checks (no live working)
  • Fire door inspections
  • Workplace equipment inspections
  • Internal fabric maintenance
  • External fabric inspections
  • Additional support activities

Experience / Requirements:

  • Experience within general building maintenance / facilities compliance support
  • Flexible with travel / changing site requirements
  • Full UK Driving Licence

Desirable (not essential):

  • Fire door inspection experience (training can be provided for the right candidate)
  • Joinery or Carpentry experience
