Location: Farnborough, Hampshire – Part time – 4 days on, 4 days off rotating schedule. Shift pattern 6pm-2am with 15% shift allowance. Weekly hours 28 hours.
Job Summary
You will perform and guide microbiological analysis to help provide reliably safe, clean wholesome water. The microbiology team detects faecal indicator bacteria and protozoa in our water supply. The laboratory receives daily samples throughout the year. You will analyse and interpret data, update systems, maintain equipment and ensure analyses are accurate and timely.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate instrumentation and conduct analysis in line with the Laboratory Management system.
- Assist with maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment.
- Analyse and interpret data and complete laboratory paperwork.
- Document information by maintaining daily logs and equipment records.
- Enter data into the Laboratory Information Management System within set timeframes.
- Ensure sample stability and turnaround for the given analysis is met.
- Prepare standards, reagents and quality control samples in accordance with internal procedures.
Requirements
- Relevant academic qualification or scientific subject at NVQ level 3 equivalent or above.
- Willingness to work towards full membership of a professional body.
- Excellent numeracy, literacy, computer and laboratory skills for robust analytical practice.
