Purpose of the role: To drive the success of the commercial banking segment through market analysis, product development, sales and relationship management, risk management, and performance.

Accountabilities:

  • Execution of market research to understand the competitive landscape, identify market trends and opportunities, and develop strategies to capture market share within the commercial banking segment.
  • Development of appropriate pricing models for different products and services, ensuring profitability while remaining competitive.
  • Development, implementation and management of innovative financial solutions, services and products aligned to the bank's objectives and tailored to the commercial banking segment, including loan products, cash management solutions, and trade finance services.
  • Identification and forging of strategic partnerships with other financial institutions, technology providers, or industry experts to expand product offerings and reach new client segments.
  • Management of key stakeholder relationships within target companies to understand their needs and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Development and implementation of sales strategies, including the establishment of sales targets, identification of sales channels, and objectives for loan terms to support negotiation processes and service agreements.
  • Monitoring of key leading and lagging metrics such as new client acquisition, loan volume, revenue generation, and market share to assess performance.
  • Funnel and journey optimisation as key to delivery of service and commercial performance.

  • Identify ways to mitigate risk and develop new policies/procedures to support the control and governance agenda.
  • Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work done.
  • Perform work closely related to that of other areas, requiring understanding of coordination to achieve organisational sub function objectives.
  • Collaborate with other areas of work for business aligned support and to stay up to speed with business activity and strategy.
  • Engage in complex analysis of data from multiple sources, internal and external, to solve problems creatively and effectively.
  • Communicate complex information, including sensitive content, to appropriate audiences.
  • Influence or convince stakeholders to achieve outcomes.

In this role, you will define and optimise portfolio level commercial strategies, lead ongoing portfolio performance tracking, and ensure all pricing and retention strategies adhere to governance processes. Key responsibilities include:

  • Work closely with stakeholders across the business to prioritise portfolio impacting changes.
  • Define, manage, and optimise customer strategies to improve financial performance, portfolio profitability, and customer outcomes.

Requirements:

  • Commercial and financial acumen, ideally with exposure to P&L management, revenue optimisation, or margin performance within a product or portfolio.
  • Strategic thinking, with a proven ability to develop, assess, and adapt customer and/or product strategies in a dynamic environment.
  • Customer centric mindset, embedding customer outcomes and experience considerations into commercial decision making.
  • Leadership and people management skills, with experience influencing, motivating, and developing others.
  • Sound understanding of policy and regulation, with the ability to operate compliantly within a regulated financial services environment.
  • Excellent influencing and stakeholder management capabilities, enabling effective collaboration across senior internal and external stakeholders.
  • Highly developed analytical and problem solving skills, using insight and data to drive performance and decision making.
  • Great execution and delivery focus, with prior experience of driving activities from strategy through to measurable results.
  • Market and regulatory awareness, staying informed of industry trends, competitive dynamics, and regulatory developments impacting acquisition.
  • Experience in a lending or wider financial services product environment, with an understanding of product economics and customer lifecycle management.
  • Experience in financial services or a regulated environment, with an understanding of regulatory expectations and governance requirements.

Location: This role can be based in either Edinburgh or Glasgow.
