Tozers LLP is a leading firm of solicitors with offices in Exeter, Teignmouth and Newton Abbot offering an extensive legal service to businesses and individuals both locally and nationally. We are recognised in the Legal 500 and Chambers UK legal directories in a number of fields. Tozers has a strong and well‑established litigation team, acting for clients locally and nationally in England and Wales. Our work spans both commercial and residential disputes, including agricultural disputes with a diverse client base that includes developers, landowners, councils, charities, farms, businesses, landed estates and private high net worth individuals up and down the country. We are also national experts in holiday and home parks.
As part of our continued growth, we are seeking an experienced lawyer to join our property litigation team in Exeter, working with the wider real estate and agricultural sector teams.
The primary focus of the role will be acting on a wide range of property‑related disputes, acting mostly for businesses, landlords, landowners and other high net worth individuals. The team assists clients in everything from residential landlord and tenant matters (an area of law that is facing significant change), to the contentious side of commercial landlord and tenant work, and a broad range of land‑related disputes (rights of way, restrictive covenants, adverse possession etc). There may be some opportunity to undertake wider commercial litigation (to include insolvency and debt recovery that may flow from property matters).
We offer encouragement and opportunity to develop and refine areas of specialism which are of interest to the firm and to you. Training is available. You will be encouraged to develop areas of business development and be responsible for growing not only the firm’s work in this area, but your own brand as well.
The team enjoys high quality work including referrals from our commercial and residential property colleagues as well as from our sector teams: Charities, Residential and Holiday Parks and Residential Providers. The team also has a growing reputation amongst property agents, which is leading to an increase in external referrals.
We welcome applications from lawyers from NQ level up to around 5 years' PQE who have an existing property litigation‑focused skill set who want to grow and develop. In addition to excellent client skills, you will demonstrate enthusiasm and a high level of commitment to your work, and you will be confident in your ability to run your own caseload. You will also be keen to work alongside the team to develop our property litigation offering to the market.
We believe that our people are our most important asset, and are committed to supporting our teams, cultivating a healthy culture of challenge and expectation with support and care. We invest in our teams and our infrastructure to ensure that we attract and retain talented staff, and are committed to giving all colleagues the opportunity to reach their full potential, with a real focus on training and development. We also pride ourselves on offering a genuine work‑life balance to our staff.
