At OQC, we're building quantum computers that will power the next generation of scientific discovery and commercial innovation. Our mission is to put quantum in the hands of humanity and we're looking for exceptional engineers to help make it possible.

We are seeking a Head of RF Devices to lead the development of the RF systems underpinning our superconducting quantum processors; guiding the design, simulation and scaling of RF architectures critical to qubit performance.

Leading a team at the intersection of RF engineering, device physics and quantum hardware, you will develop passive RF components, simulation capabilities and scalable architectures that support the evolution of OQC’s coaxmon qubit platform.

The Role

The Head of RF Devices will lead the development of RF infrastructure critical for scaling OQC’s processors while maintaining high-performance. You will manage a small but growing team; working at the interface of RF engineering and quantum device performance, you will establish frameworks that translate RF parameters into quantum figures of merit, ensuring designs are optimised for both engineering and qubit performance. You will also define standards for RF simulation, tools and documentation to ensure consistent, version controlled engineering practices.

In collaboration with device physicists, packaging engineers and quantum scientists, you will drive RF innovation while building relationships with external suppliers to expand manufacturing and materials capabilities.

What you’ll be working on
  • Lead: Manage and grow a team of RF engineers responsible for the development of passive RF components and RF architectures supporting OQC’s superconducting quantum processors.
  • Architect: Define and evolve RF design strategies that enable scalable superconducting qubit systems, including miniaturisation and next generation integration approaches.
  • Simulate: Oversee the development of RF simulation infrastructure that links RF design parameters to relevant quantum figures of merit.
  • Standardise: Establish consistent methodologies for RF simulation, modelling and documentation, ensuring tools and results are version controlled and accessible across the organisation.
  • Design: Guide the development of passive RF components including drive and readout PCBs, on board filters, mixed signal delivery paths and packaging interfaces.
  • Integrate: Work across chip design, packaging and 3D integration teams to ensure RF architectures align with device physics and system level performance requirements.
  • Analyse: Lead the analysis and interpretation of RF simulations and experimental data, translating results into frameworks usable by RF engineers, packaging engineers and quantum scientists.
  • Enable: Deliver a "simulation as a service" capability that allows engineering teams to rapidly screen designs against RF and quantum performance metrics.
  • Partner: Build and manage relationships with suppliers and manufacturers to expand RF manufacturing capabilities, materials options and fabrication techniques.
What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for a technical leader who combines deep RF expertise with strong engineering judgement and the ability to guide multidisciplinary teams in a fast moving research and development environment while still happy to be hands on with the technical work.

  • RF Engineering Expertise: Extensive experience in RF simulation and design, ideally applied to complex hardware systems.
  • Simulation & Modelling: Strong experience with finite element modelling tools such as Ansys or similar.
  • Quantum Hardware Context: Experience working with or simulating superconducting quantum devices or related cryogenic RF systems.
  • PCB Design: Experience designing and laying out RF PCBs and passive RF components.
  • Technical Leadership: Proven ability to lead technical teams, mentor engineers and guide complex engineering programmes.
  • Cross disciplinary Communication: Ability to translate complex RF and scientific information across engineering and research teams.
  • Programming: Experience with Python or similar languages for modelling, analysis or automation.
The Nice to Haves
  • Experience in the manufacture or packaging of passive RF components.
  • Understanding of superconducting qubit readout and measurement techniques.
  • Knowledge of parametric processes in superconducting devices.
  • Experience working in quantum computing, cryogenic systems or advanced research hardware environments.
Why Join OQC?

At OQC, you’ll work shoulder to shoulder with world class scientists, engineers and technologists who are redefining what’s computationally possible. This is a rare opportunity to shape the RF architecture of real, production quantum computers and solve deep technical challenges at the frontier of science and engineering.

If you’re motivated by leading exceptional engineers, tackling fundamental hardware challenges and helping scale the next generation of quantum processors, OQC offers an environment where your work will directly shape the future of quantum computing.
