What you’ll be doing:
- Receive, verify (consignment notes), inspect, sample and classify packaged hazardous waste in line with permit requirements
- Assess hazards, determine appropriate process routes, and maintain accurate records in HazMat
- Generate and apply barcode labels to ensure full traceability
- Coordinate with Day Team operators to move and store waste safely; update storage locations in HazMat
- Ensure storage complies with segregation policy; complete daily storage area checks
- Sample and complete compatibility testing of liquid wastes per local instructions
- Produce compliant waste processing menus, including LLW, to meet plant process and emissions limits across multiple process routes
- Produce required documentation such as re-handle/re-pack certificates, greenhouse checksheets, COSHH assessments
- Provide regular stock/process/HazMat reporting and liaise with the Materials Manager to optimise plant intake
- Identify and report non-conforming loads and safety observations/incidents using site systems (e.g., EcoOnline)
- Support waste acceptance/site monitoring duties (RPS) and escort customers for witness burns when required
- Maintain high housekeeping/5S standards in the office and storage areas
What we’re looking for:
- Experience or strong capability in hazardous waste receipt, inspection, sampling and classification within a regulated environment
- Working knowledge of permit compliance, segregation/storage controls, and safe handling/PPE requirements
- Confidence producing compliant process plans/menus and associated documentation, including COSHH
- Strong attention to detail and data accuracy; competent using inventory/traceability systems (HazMat experience desirable)
- Clear communicator who works effectively with operations teams and can manage priorities in a live plant environment
- Proactive safety mindset with confidence reporting non-conformance and incidents via site systems
- Flexibility to work the stated shifts and maintain consistent coverage
- FLT experience/certification desirable (or willingness to undertake as required)
- Ability to pass DBS screening to support secure destruction contracts (Government/MOD)
