Our Place is Action on Disability's community hub led by and for Disabled people. We are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable, and creative-minded person to join the Our Place team as a Dance Group Peer Lead Volunteer. The ideal volunteer enjoys working with people, is a good listener, and feels confident supporting a group in a warm, welcoming, and inclusive way.
As Our Place is led by and for Disabled people, we particularly welcome applications from Disabled volunteers and those with lived experience of disability. You do not need to be a professional dance instructor, but a passion for dance, movement, music, and community participation, along with a positive and encouraging attitude, is essential. Patience, empathy, and a commitment to creating a safe and accessible space for everyone are key qualities we value.
As the Dance Group Peer Lead Volunteer, you will play an important role in supporting a fun, creative, and inclusive space where participants can enjoy movement, build confidence, express themselves, and connect with others through dance.
Key tasks:
- Leading weekly dance and movement sessions
- Choreographing sessions
- Encouraging participation, confidence, and peer support within the group
- Helping to create a welcoming, safe, and accessible environment for participants of all abilities
- Assisting with setting up and tidying away equipment and resources
- Supporting participants to engage in dance and movement activities at their own pace and ability level
- Sharing ideas for music, movement activities, and creative themes
- Working alongside staff and other volunteers to support the group's needs
- Promoting enjoyment, wellbeing, and social connection through dance and movement
What Are We Looking For?
- An interest and/or experience in dance and movement, preferably in a teaching capacity
- Confidence in supporting and encouraging participation in a group of all abilities
- Good communication and listening skills
- Ability to motivate and support others in a positive, person-centred, and respectful way
- Reliability and commitment to attending sessions as agreed
- Organisational skills (session choreography, set up and equipment)
- An awareness of health and safety requirements
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Understanding of disability, accessibility, and inclusive practice
- A supportive, patient, and open-minded approach
