Overview: Our Court Associates are essential to ensuring that Magistrates Court hearings run smoothly. They communicate confidently with the Judge and all participants and produce accurate and timely court documents.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure the smooth running of all Magistrates Courts sitting daily.
- Intervene in court when required and maximise judicial sitting time.
- Take pleas, produce court orders and record hearing outcomes accurately and efficiently.
- Maintain documents and information to a high standard in a fast paced environment.
Qualifications & Requirements: Suitable candidates will be:
- Confident communicators with the ability to speak publicly in a courtroom setting.
- Team players able to work within a legal team and with a judge.
- Detail oriented, capable of completing documents accurately against tight deadlines.
- Resilient and keen to learn, comfortable working within established processes.
- IT proficient, able to adapt to new systems and technologies.
Location & Working Pattern: Base location will be either Brighton Magistrates' Court or Crawley Magistrates' Court, with frequent travel between both locations as business requires. Standard full time hours are 37 hours per week, with the postholder on site between 9:30 am and court finish time. The role is not suitable for part day applicants; part time consideration requires a minimum of four working days per week.
