Help us make a difference to people with life‑limiting illnesses. We are looking for a qualified counsellor to join our team, who will offer support to patients and their relatives and friends at The Myton Hospices. This is a flexible role to enable the team to meet the demands of our waiting list. Bank staff members are crucial to the effective running of our service.
About you
- Professional diploma in Counselling at level 4 or above
- BACP / NCPS registration or equivalent
- Regular engagement with CPD (continuing professional development)
- Experience of working with loss and grief
- Experience of working face to face, online or on the phone
- Multidisciplinary team working skills
- The right to work in the UK (we cannot provide sponsorship)
- Experience of working with children or young people would be advantageous but is not essential.
This role will require an enhanced DBS check including the children's and adults' barred lists. We will arrange and cover the cost of this check if you are offered the role.
Main duties of the job
- Seeing 3-5 clients at one of our hospice sites
- Assessing clients' needs
- Delivering quality counselling sessions
- Keeping accurate records
You may be required to work at any of our three sites in Coventry, Warwick and Rugby.
Job responsibilities
- To provide counselling, family support and bereavement/aftercare to patients and their families at the Myton Hospices, as directed by the Counselling Service Lead supported by the Intake Practitioner.
- The post-holder will at all times practice with care, compassion, competence, good communication, courage and commitment.
- Maintain a clinical caseload including one-to-one counselling, group, and family support work.
- Respond to referrals appropriately, according to service policy.
- Communicate effectively with appropriate members of the Multi-Disciplinary Team and volunteers, whilst maintaining strict client confidentiality according to BACP Guidelines.
- Work closely with, and provide cover during annual leave or sickness, for other members of the Counselling team as requested by the Counselling Service Lead.
- Assist in the continuing development of the Counselling, Bereavement Crosscare, including filing and handling of confidential documents.

- Demonstrate commitment to continuing professional development and attend training sessions as identified by the Line Manager.
- Attend all annual mandatory training specific to your role.
- Understand and comply with all relevant Myton policies, procedures and guidelines.
- Support and work effectively with volunteers.
- Ensure safety procedures are carried out in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
- Represent Myton in a positive light and embody the corporate identity.

Qualifications
Essential:
- Professional diploma in Counselling at level 4 or above.
- BACP registration or equivalent and working towards accreditation.
- Evidence of continual professional development and education.
Desirable:
- BACP accreditation.
Skills and Attributes
Essential:
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work closely with multi-disciplinary team members.
- Good computer literacy with knowledge of Windows applications and patient databases.
- Good planning and organisational skills.
Other requirements
- Valid UK driving licence and a suitable vehicle for work or other reliable means of transport to Coventry, Warwick and Rugby Myton Hospices sites when required.
- Ability to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends.
- Ability to work at all three Myton Hospices sites (Coventry, Warwick and Rugby).
- The right to work in the UK (we cannot provide sponsorship).
