Hours of work: 37 per week

Start and finish times: Monday to Thursday - 07:00 - 16:45

Role Purpose: To ensure the dimensional conformance of aerospace components using advanced metrology equipment and Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs). This role is responsible for creating, validating, and maintaining CMM programs, performing in-process and final inspections, and supporting continuous improvement activities aligned with SQCDP (Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, People) performance requirements. The CMM Programmer / Quality Inspector plays a key role in maintaining compliance with AS9100, customer specifications, and internal quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safety
    • Adhere to all site safety policies and safe working procedures.
    • Ensure safe operation of measurement equipment and handling of components.
    • Identify and report unsafe conditions, equipment faults, or hazards.
    • Support 6S workplace standards within the quality inspection and CMM areas.
  • Quality
    • Program and operate CMM machines using PC DMIS.
    • Create accurate, repeatable, and efficient measurement routines.
    • Conduct in-process, first-off, and final inspections using CMM, height gauges, micrometres, and other metrology tools.
    • Generate inspection reports.
    • Maintain calibration and proper handling of inspection equipment.
    • Investigate non-conformances, support root cause analysis, and contribute to corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
    • Maintain fully traceable inspection records in accordance with AS9100 / ISO9001.
  • Cost
    • Reduce rework and scrap through accurate measurement and timely feedback to production.
    • Optimise CMM programs to reduce inspection cycle times while maintaining accuracy.
    • Support waste-reduction activities, including identifying variation and inefficiencies.
    • Ensure tools and gauges are used and maintained responsibly to avoid damage or loss.
  • Delivery
    • Provide timely inspection support to maintain production flow and customer delivery schedules.
    • Prioritise inspection workload based on SQCDP targets and production demands.
    • Work closely with manufacturing and engineering teams to resolve quality issues quickly.
    • Ensure all CMM programs are correctly stored, version controlled, and accessible to support uninterrupted operations.
  • People
    • Support training and development of operators in basic metrology and quality awareness.
    • Communicate inspection outcomes and quality concerns clearly and constructively.
    • Promote a positive culture of right first time and continuous improvement.

Role Requirements

Essential

  • Proven experience in CMM programming (PC DMIS or equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of engineering drawings.
  • Experience in aerospace, precision engineering, or similar high accuracy manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to use a broad range of inspection tools.
  • Knowledge of AS9100 / ISO9001 quality systems.

Desirable

  • Experience with MSA (Measurement System Analysis).
  • Experience producing data to support AS9102 FAIRs.
  • Apprenticeship or NVQ in engineering or metrology.
