The Opportunity

We are seeking three experienced Bid Writers to join our client's team, a leading Tier 1 civil engineering and infrastructure business. Based in either London or Wiltshire, the company currently turns over more than £105m in the UK and has over £1bn worth of projects currently live across the next 3-year programmes across the following projects: tunnelling, station upgrades, TFL bridge, hydro-power, data centre and Sellafield infrastructure works. This is a high-profile opportunity for a commercially astute estimating professional with a proven track record of developing competitive tender submissions that secure work and withstand rigorous commercial scrutiny.

The Role

An accomplished Bid Writer with extensive experience within the Civil Engineering and Infrastructure sectors. Proven ability to manage complex tender submissions from inception through to completion, producing high-quality, compliant, and persuasive bid responses. Experienced in supporting bids across highways, utilities, rail, water and major infrastructure projects, with a strong understanding of public and private sector procurement processes. Adept at engaging with technical and operational stakeholders to develop winning strategies and secure new business opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Produce high-quality written responses for PQQs, tenders, framework opportunities, and client submissions.
  • Develop bespoke content, case studies, project examples, CVs, references, and supporting documentation.
  • Support Bid Managers, Business Development Managers, and the Head of Bid Management throughout the bid lifecycle.
  • Participate in bid kick-off meetings, progress reviews, and submission planning sessions.
  • Facilitate storyboard sessions with subject matter experts and take ownership of response development through to completion.
  • Edit, proofread, and quality-check tender documentation to ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Assess draft responses and provide constructive feedback to contributors to improve quality and scoring potential.
  • Create and update graphics, flowcharts, organisational charts, and process diagrams to enhance submissions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve and repurpose existing content from the bid library.
  • Maintain accurate records within the document management system and support knowledge management activities.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Previous experience in proposal writing.
  • Technical knowledge of civil engineering and the built environment.
  • Demonstrable experience in planning and producing successful quality/submission documents.
  • Degree educated.
  • Advanced MS Word skills & proficient in MS Office.
  • Demonstrable high level of competence in written English.
  • Creative approach to producing submissions for demanding clients.
  • Proof reading and formatting experience.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety, business systems, and the construction market.
  • Previous experience of working within the bidding process.
  • Incorporation of graphics, active headings, images and action captions, to enhance documents.
  • Experience of working with appropriate software packages e.g. Microsoft 365, Adobe Creative Suite.
  • An ability to be innovative and creative.
  • Comfortable working with third parties.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to use own initiative, question assumptions and learn from and share experiences.
  • The ability to work within multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively.
