The London Borough of Harrow is seeking a Building Control Technical Support Officer to play a central role within the Technical Support Team for Building Control. This position serves as the first point of contact for customers, visitors, and both internal and external partners, providing a welcoming and informed service. The role requires a strong working knowledge of current Building Control administrative practices, procedures, and legislation, as well as the ability to offer fee quotations for applications and manage customer complaints effectively.

As part of a team of Technical Support Officers, the postholder will provide essential technical and administrative support to ensure the smooth operation of the Building Control service in line with all relevant regulations. The role includes responsibility for collecting the Building Safety Levy and managing the daily administrative processes involved in the submission, progression, and enforcement of building control applications in accordance with statutory requirements. The position will also support the delivery of marketing initiatives aimed at promoting the Building Control service. Working closely with Building Control Managers, the postholder will help ensure that all administrative functions comply with current regulatory standards. Additionally, the role involves assisting with the auditing of Key Performance Indicators and contributing feedback to the Building Safety Regulator to support continuous improvement across the service.

About You

  • In depth knowledge of the role and purpose of the Building Control Department.
  • Experience of working in Building Control.
  • Experience of working with all types of Building Control applications.
  • Understanding the Building Safety Regulator functions and requirements.
  • Experience of marketing Building Control and ability to suggest new initiatives and implement them within the TSO team.
  • Knowledge and experience of processing payments, invoices, liaising with finance dept, for applications, for BSR related work and for Reversions.
  • Technical knowledge and understanding of fees, ability to calculate fee quotations to customers.
