About Us

Connex Education Partnership is a dedicated and specialised provider of educational professionals across a wide range of settings. Our mission is to deliver meaningful, tailored, and supportive one-to-one tuition for children who are not currently attending school, in environments that best meet their needs - most commonly within the family home.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced SEN Home Tutor with a strong background as an SEMH Mentor and teaching experience to join our passionate home tuition team. This role is ideal for a nurturing, resilient, and creative professional who can combine teaching expertise with emotional and behavioural support strategies to re-engage learners with education. You will support children in the Sutton Coldfield area who are currently out of mainstream or specialist school. Many of the pupils have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and present with autism, complex learning needs, and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges.

Your role will involve delivering personalised one-to-one sessions while also acting as a consistent, positive mentor - helping pupils regulate emotions, build trust, and develop confidence in learning.

Working pattern:

  • Monday to Friday availability
  • Minimum of 2 hours per day per pupil (more hours available)
  • Opportunities across the wider West Midlands, including Birmingham, Lichfield, Sutton Coldfield, Harborne, Wolverhampton and surrounding areas

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality, one-to-one tuition tailored to each pupil's EHCP outcomes
  • Act as a positive SEMH mentor, supporting emotional regulation, resilience, and engagement
  • Plan and adapt creative, personalised learning programmes to suit individual needs and interests
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils who may have experienced barriers to education
  • Use de-escalation strategies and trauma-informed approaches to support behaviour
  • Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to parents, carers, and professionals
  • Work collaboratively with local authorities, schools, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Create a safe, calm, and structured learning environment within the home

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Proven experience as a Teacher (QTS or non-QTS) - essential
  • Strong SEMH mentoring or behaviour support experience
  • Experience working with children with SEN, particularly autism, SEMH, and complex needs
  • Knowledge of strategies such as trauma-informed practice, de-escalation techniques, and behaviour support plans
  • Experience with PECS and/or Makaton (highly desirable)
  • A genuine passion for supporting children outside of mainstream education
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • A patient, empathetic, and adaptable approach
  • Ability to travel locally (driving preferred but not essential)

Key Benefits

  • Flexible working: Manage your own schedule to suit your lifestyle
  • Guaranteed pay: Minimum of 10 hours per week per pupil, including 2 hours of paid planning time
  • Autonomy: Freedom to deliver creative, personalised sessions tailored to each learner
  • Meaningful impact: Play a vital role in re-engaging pupils with education and improving outcomes
  • Competitive pay rates: With opportunities for additional work and referrals
  • Professional support: Ongoing guidance from a dedicated SEN Home Tuition team
  • Collaborative working: Engage with local authorities and professionals to support each child holistically
