An established and well-regarded North Devon law firm is seeking a Private Client Paralegal / Legal Assistant to join its busy and friendly Barnstaple office. Due to continued growth, the Private Client team is now looking to recruit an enthusiastic and organised individual to support fee earners on a broad range of matters.
The Role
You will assist within a busy Private Client department handling a varied caseload, including:
- Wills and estate planning
- Probate and estate administration
- Trusts
- Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPAs) and Court of Protection matters
Key Responsibilities
- Assisting fee earners with the preparation of wills, LPAs and probate applications
- Drafting correspondence and legal documents
- Opening and managing client files in accordance with compliance procedures
- Liaising with clients, beneficiaries, executors and third parties
- Handling telephone and email enquiries in a professional and empathetic manner
- Supporting with estate administration, including asset collection and distribution
- Preparing forms and documents for submission to HMRC and the Probate Registry
- Maintaining accurate records and case management systems
- General administrative support to the Private Client team
About You
- Previous experience in a Private Client Paralegal or Legal Assistant role is preferred
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills with a client-focused approach
- Ability to handle sensitive matters with professionalism and empathy
- A proactive and team-oriented mindset
- Knowledge of wills, probate and private client processes is desirable
