A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced and motivated FE professional to step into a key leadership position as Assistant Head of Department within a Construction and Building Services curriculum area. This role will support the Head of Department in leading a dynamic provision across Multi Skills, Property Maintenance Operations, and Bricklaying, delivered across two campuses. You'll play a central role in shaping curriculum delivery, enhancing teaching quality, and driving positive learner outcomes. This is a varied, hands on leadership role suited to someone who thrives in a fast paced educational environment and is passionate about staff development and student success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Head of Department in the leadership and development of curriculum, staff, and resources
  • Drive high standards of teaching, learning, and assessment across the provision
  • Monitor and track performance data to ensure strong learner outcomes
  • Inspire and support staff development, performance, and engagement
  • Contribute to continuous improvement, innovation, and quality enhancement
  • Ensure compliance with relevant Health & Safety standards
  • Help create an inclusive, high performing learning environment across both campuses

About You

We are looking for an inspiring leader with strong FE experience who can bring energy, structure, and direction to a busy curriculum area. You will have:

  • Significant teaching experience within Further Education
  • A strong understanding of teaching, learning, and assessment in FE
  • A recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, Cert Ed, DET/DTLLS)
  • Up to date knowledge of safeguarding and Health & Safety requirements
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and organisational skills
  • Experience of supporting or leading teams (desirable but not essential)

A construction trade background is not essential - strong FE leadership and teaching expertise is the priority.
