Overview
Reporting to: Ops, IT & Projects Finance Bus Partner. Direct Reports: None. Position Type: Permanent.
Tokio Marine HCC is a leading specialty insurer with offices worldwide. Our finance and FP&A team supports expense reporting, planning and analysis, cost allocations and recharges across operating units and legal entities, providing clear line of sight for business and finance stakeholders. This role supports simplification and standardisation of processes and models as the business grows through acquisitions and organic expansion. The role suits someone with strong communication, analytical and data visualization skills to add value and develop an understanding of the business in finance.
Key focus: business partnering and decision support for operating expenses, principally supporting the Group Chief Operating Officer (GCOO) and areas including Enterprise Change Function, IT Function, and Operations Function. Forward-looking expense forecasting, scenario analysis, stress testing and project support, along with cost reporting, variance analysis and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Business Partnering and Decision Support
- Prepare accurate expense analysis and commentary; identify key drivers of operating cost expenditure.
- Utilise monthly expense reports and analytics to create transparency and insight for management decision making.
- Provide administrative and analytical support for commercial discussions with Executive Management and Department Heads.
- Maintain accurate headcount data and assist in resource planning, providing insight into current and projected positions.
- Assist in preparing and presenting investment appraisals and prioritisation.
- Perform competitor analysis using external data to benchmark and provide insights.
- Forward Looking Analysis
- Carry out scenario analysis and stress testing to support decision making.
- Influence and challenge business decisions and strategy where appropriate.
- Projects
- Enhance data visualization to communicate trends and insights to stakeholders.
- Analyze project expenses and understand project outcomes to derive benefits and ROI.
- Manage the Enterprise Change cash portfolio and prioritisation of projects and finance decisions.
- Educate change managers on key finance requirements to track and provide transparency on project expenses.
- Annual Planning & Continual Forecasting
- Contribute to OCOO analysis to support annual Corporate budget; engage with stakeholders during planning and review inputs.
- Partner with the business for quarterly international expense forecasting, identifying issues and historical trends.
- Processes and Systems
- Develop knowledge of procurement, invoicing and capitalisation processes; document and review policies regularly.
- Provide tools and processes for OCOO departments to track costs.
- Manage vendor and service provider relationships as required.
- Relationship Management
- Act as a principal Finance contact for Enterprise Change, IT and Operations; lead business partnering on expenses and headcount.
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders across locations to deliver high-quality support.
- Elicit stakeholder requirements to determine value-add support and anticipate needs.
- Other Activities
- Explore and introduce data visualization to communicate trends and insights.
- Champion continuous improvement to ensure efficient, high-quality processes and outputs.
Skills and Experience
- Essential:
- Part Qualified (CIMA / ACA / ACCA).
- Business partnering, relationship building and communication skills.
- Experience supporting business functions; IT-literate with advanced Excel and strong financial modelling.
- Data visualization skills to communicate key messages.
- Analytical capability with clear communication of financial information and metrics.
- Highly numerate with attention to detail; ability to influence others and work within tight timeframes.
- Desirable:
- PeopleSoft experience; insurance experience including reinsurance and commission structures affecting operating expenses.
- Anaplan experience; experience with BI systems such as PowerBI or Tableau.
- Soft skills: energy, enthusiasm, adaptability, professional delivery, continuous improvement mindset, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, assertive yet collaborative.
- Aptitude to build relationships across finance and the wider organisation; proactive in improving processes; willingness to challenge methods for efficiency.
