The Diocese of Guildford is seeking an experienced, visionary Academic and Training Lead to shape and deliver high-quality formation and training for those preparing for licensed ministry within the Church of England and curate the training offered to those already licensed and leading in mission and ministry in our parishes. As the Academic and Training Lead, you will be a key member of the St Martha's College (SMC) team. St Martha's College is at the heart of vocational formation within the diocese, bringing together a growing range of training pathways including Foundations in Ministry, Occasional Courses, CMD, Clergy Wellbeing, and leadership development.
The Role
Working closely with the SMC Principal, and colleagues across the Mission Team, you will:
- Lead the academic development of St Martha's College learning pathways, in line with diocesan priorities and national Common Awards requirements.
- Oversee the delivery of courses for candidates of ministry, including assessment, evaluation, and curriculum development.
- Work collaboratively with key partners, including the SCTEI Academic Registrar, Durham University Common Awards team, and diocesan staff to ensure robust academic practice.
- Plan and deliver modules, residential weekends, and wider formation programmes.
- Champion pedagogical innovation, particularly in online and asynchronous learning.
- Provide pastoral care and formation oversight for students on licensed ministry pathways, including the oversight of annual reviews and appraisal processes.
- Be present at midweek teaching sessions and contribute to teaching across the curriculum.
- Oversee the development and delivery of the diocesan online training portal.
- Line manage the E‑Learning Coordinator.
- Create and oversee an integrated training curriculum for those serving in Parishes.
- Commission training in response to identified needs across the diocese.
