NHS LOTHIAN ACUTE THERAPY SERVICES WGH 0.8 WTE Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner Stroke Rehabilitation, Royal Victoria Building (RVB) 1 year temporary. Come and join our Physiotherapy team in the Western General Hospital in one of the most visited cities in the world - Edinburgh! We have an exciting opportunity for highly motivated, proactive physiotherapist to join our Stroke rehabilitation team within the Royal Victoria Building at the Western General Hospital for 1 year.

The 26‑bed stroke unit in ward 71 in the Western General Hospital (WGH) provides medical management and rehabilitation through a multidisciplinary team approach, working closely with the physiotherapy team, other allied health professionals, nurses, doctors, and the activity coordinator. Rehabilitation includes specialist physiotherapy and programmes that provide patients with the opportunity to optimise activity levels when not in therapy sessions.

The key responsibilities of the service are to provide assessment and intervention to patients in the WGH stroke unit across the spectrum of stroke complexity. The Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner (APP) has a key role in complex stroke case management, applying effective leadership to ensure the delivery of best clinical practice, enhancing the evidence base, clinical service development and modernisation to ensure the service meets the national and local strategic drivers and current agendas.

The APP will contribute to the clinical development and leadership of the stroke service in conjunction with Team Lead physiotherapists who are responsible for the wider Royal Victoria Building and Medicine of the Elderly physiotherapy service. Experience of supervision, mentorship and appraisal of other staff members / students is expected, as is evidence of multi‑disciplinary working. A background in service development with knowledge of QI methodology is required.

This exciting post will allow the successful candidate to gain extensive and in‑depth experience as a band 7 Advanced Practitioner physiotherapist within Stroke rehabilitation. Physiotherapy Services support staff development through appraisal processes, supervision and CPD opportunities.

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post. Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025, this post may require a different level of criminal records check done than is currently the case. If the post is assessed as a "regulated role", your appointment will be subject to joining the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme. If there is any change to what is currently required, this will be confirmed by either the Hiring Manager or the Recruitment Team.

Please note: As this post is part‑time, the salary will be pro‑rata.
