Introduction:

Job Bridge Global is currently seeking an experienced Welding Engineer to join an employers team.

The Company:

The employer operates in various industries including Oil & Gas, Nuclear, Defence, Hydrogen, and Carbon Capture plant industries. They take pride in delivering high-quality projects and providing innovative solutions to their clients. The role:

You will be supporting the Welding Manager and leading the Welding Technicians in the timely and correct delivery of all aspects of welding and materials engineering duties. These duties will include the design and implementation of welding procedures and new business systems. You will assist QA/QC in conducting root cause analysis of shop and site welding/material difficulties and welding document errors.

You will be expected to be the subject matter expert and technical authority for several gas site projects, able to apply your knowledge in a variety of settings, confident and capable of making critical engineering decisions; the ideal candidate will either hold or be working towards (IENG) or (CENG) status, with the future possibility for progression to engineering manager and above.

The position is based in the Warrington area and is easily commutable from the northwest.

Main Activities:

1. Keep abreast of welding developments and best practices.

2. To assist the Welding Manager in reviewing contract requirement related to welding. Provide comments/feedback to commercial and production departments on welding topics on projects specification/procedure/tender.

3. Assist the engineering manager in the mentorship of technicians and trainees.

4. Consult with third party inspection authorities whenever required for the project and issuing any necessary work orders for inspections and testing.

5. Auditing of engineering processes on sites and in business

6. Writing and approving pWPS’s, WPQR’s and WPS’s, updating and maintaining the files of approved WPS’s.

7. Confident to stop processes if they do not meet specified requirements.

8. Raise non-conformity reports, performing root cause analysis and approving re-work processes.

9. Collate, update and file documents electronically relevant to welding engineering.

10. Issue, maintain and revalidate welder’s qualification test records (WQT’s).

11. Assist the welding manager in providing expertise in the development of specific procedures, techniques, checklists, sequences, or any other welding-related requirements.

12. The development of specific procedures, techniques, checklists, sequences, or any other engineering-related requirements.

13. Long term department strategising and implementation, aligned with the business’s future needs and developments in engineering technologies and practices.

14. Evaluate material grades and Positive Material Identification (PMI) tests for conformity to welding procedures and standards/codes.

15. Liaise with the Quality Engineers/Supervisors/Inspectors, Project Managers, Production Supervisors and Clients Representatives whenever required for the project.

16. To attend and facilitate meetings, seminars, training workshops and other work-related issues, as required, which may involve working outside regular hours and travel to remote sites across the UK.

17. To adhere to existing working practices, methods, procedures, undertake relevant training and development activities and to respond positively to new and alternative systems.

18. To comply with health and safety legislation, policies, and procedures in the performance of the duties of the post.

19. To maintain confidentiality and observe data protection and associated guidelines where appropriate.

20. Perform other role-related duties as assigned by the department head.

Qualifications and Skills:

Skills:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working as a welding engineer
  • Excellent working knowledge of ferrous materials.
  • Has an excellent working knowledge of non-destructive testing and mechanical testing methods.
  • Has exceptional knowledge of welding, fabrication, pipelines, and structures and capable of interpreting international codes & standards for welding and testing.
  • Must have exceptional people skills, with practical communication skills and self-confidence.
  • Shall be computer literate and specifically knowledgeable in Word, Outlook, and some of the advanced features of Excel.
  • Responsible, conscientious, punctual, highly organised, initiative-taking, and able to work under pressure, both on own initiative and as part of a busy team.
  • The ability to oversee multiple varied projects from order through to completion.
  • Have experience of applying specialist welding and material knowledge to complex problems and have excellent technical writing skills to communicate the outcome with a range of stakeholders of varying professional backgrounds.

Qualifications:

Engineering Degree or Foundation Degree or HND in Welding, Metallurgy or Mechanical Engineering and/or IWT/IWE diploma issued by The Welding Institute (TWI).

Other requirements:

As some travel within the UK to remote site locations will be required, the ability to drive in the UK is essential.

Professional registration and progression to IEng/CEng will be encouraged.
