Overview
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Senior Mechanical Design & CAD Engineer to join our dynamic team in Liverpool. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled individual with a strong background in mechanical building services design , particularly in HVAC and public health systems , who enjoys delivering high-quality, hands-on design work across a wide range of projects.
Our work spans from high-end residential properties to education sector developments , and we\’re looking for someone who is confident taking projects from RIBA Stage 3 to Stage 5 , ensuring both technical excellence and design consistency.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical services design from RIBA Stage 3 (Developed Design) through Stage 5 (Construction) .
- Produce detailed design drawings, schematics, layouts, and schedules using AutoCAD, Revit MEP, or similar CAD/BIM platforms.
- Design and coordinate energy-efficient HVAC systems , domestic hot and cold-water services , and public health engineering layouts .
- Ensure all designs comply with current Building Regulations , CIBSE guidelines , and other relevant codes of practice.
- Coordinate with architectural, structural, and electrical disciplines to ensure fully integrated solutions.
- Conduct site surveys , attend client and project meetings, and support installation reviews .
- Mentor and support junior engineers , reviewing design outputs for quality and technical accuracy.
- Assist with technical proposals and contribute to project planning and resourcing discussions.
- Maintain accurate documentation and drawing revision histories throughout the project lifecycle.
Requirements
- Degree or HND/HNC in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering.
- Minimum 3 years\’ experience in mechanical services design (residential, education, or public sector preferred).
- Proficient in 2D/3D CAD , with working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit MEP highly desirable.
- Strong technical understanding of HVAC, public health , and building services coordination.
- Experience delivering projects across RIBA Stages 3-5 , with a practical, buildable mindset .
- Excellent communication skills , with experience mentoring junior staff and leading design teams.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment with competing deadlines.
