We are looking for an experienced and motivated Scottish Qualifications Assessor to support our Health & Social Care workers through their vocational qualifications and workplace-based learning.
The Role
The Scottish Qualifications Assessor will be responsible for assessing and supporting Health & Social Care employees undertaking relevant Scottish vocational qualifications. The successful candidate will work closely with learners, managers and care staff to ensure that assessment is fair, consistent, evidence-based and completed in line with the requirements of the relevant awarding body and Scottish qualification framework.
The role will involve supporting learners to gather appropriate workplace evidence, carrying out assessments, providing constructive feedback and maintaining accurate assessment records.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess Health & Social Care workers against the requirements of relevant Scottish vocational qualifications.
- Plan assessment activities with individual learners and agree realistic timescales for completion.
- Provide guidance and support to learners throughout their qualification.
- Assess workplace performance through observation, professional discussion, questioning and review of relevant evidence.
- Ensure assessment decisions are fair, valid, reliable and consistent.
- Provide constructive feedback and agree action plans where further development or evidence is required.
- Maintain accurate learner assessment records and portfolios.
- Monitor learner progress and identify any barriers to achievement at an early stage.
- Liaise with managers and workplace supervisors to support learners and facilitate appropriate assessment opportunities.
- Ensure all assessment evidence meets the requirements of the relevant qualification and awarding organisation.
- Prepare learners for internal and external verification activities where required.
- Keep up to date with changes to Scottish qualifications, assessment requirements, legislation, care standards and best practice.
- Promote continuous professional development among Health & Social Care staff.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with Joan’s Carers Ltd policies and procedures.
- Follow safeguarding, health and safety, equality, GDPR and professional practice requirements.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of the company's training and assessment processes.
Essential Requirements
- Relevant experience of assessing Health & Social Care qualifications in Scotland.
- A recognised assessor qualification or equivalent assessment experience.
- Strong knowledge of the Scottish vocational qualifications system and workplace-based assessment.
- Relevant knowledge and experience within Health & Social Care.
- Understanding of person-centred care and the principles underpinning high-quality care practice.
- Excellent communication, organisation and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage a caseload of learners effectively.
- Ability to provide supportive, constructive and professional feedback.
- Good IT and digital-record keeping skills.
- Ability to travel to learner workplaces where required.
- Commitment to equality, diversity, safeguarding and confidentiality.
Desirable Requirements
- Experience assessing SVQs in Health and Social Care.
- Experience working with Scottish awarding organisations and external/internal verification processes.
- A relevant Health & Social Care qualification at an appropriate level.
- Qualification in quality assurance/internal verification.
- Experience supporting care workers who may require additional learning or assessment support.
- Knowledge of current Scottish Health & Social Care standards and regulatory expectations.
