The Role
Reporting into the senior leadership team, you will take responsibility for leading and developing the engineering, design, and technical functions of the business. You will play a pivotal role in driving innovation, improving processes, and ensuring the delivery of high‑quality, fit‑for‑purpose solutions. This position would suit someone who enjoys balancing strategic leadership with hands‑on technical oversight in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a multi‑disciplinary engineering and design team, including design, R&D, and electrical functions
- Develop and deliver departmental strategy aligned with wider business objectives
- Oversee technical specifications to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to design allocation
- Ensure manufacturing teams are supported with accurate production and proposal drawings
- Plan departmental capacity and communicate workload visibility across the business
- Contribute to leadership meetings, sharing performance insights and technical updates
- Identify, prioritise, and implement improvements across products, processes, and production
- Drive research and development of new products aligned to customer and market demand
- Prepare technical and performance reports to support decision‑making
- Foster a culture of innovation where ideas are encouraged and valued
- Provide technical support during customer meetings, both on‑site and remotely
- Lead recruitment activities for the department as required
- Manage people‑related matters, including performance and staffing issues
- Maintain awareness of relevant legislation and ensure ongoing compliance
About You
- Proven experience leading engineering and/or design teams
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Solid background in mechanical or engineering environments
- Experience with CAD software
- Full UK driving licence
