We are seeking a Probate Solicitor / Lawyer to join this dedicated team. In this role, you will manage a varied caseload across wills, probate and estate administration, supporting clients and their families through significant life moments with professionalism, care and sensitivity.
Working collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation, and liaising with law firms and external partners, you will play a key role in delivering a seamless service. You will manage your own matters with autonomy while contributing to the continued growth and development of the Department. This position offers the opportunity to deepen your expertise in estate law while supporting a community that values tradition, generosity and continuity.

Key Responsibilities- Estate Administration and Probate: Administer estates from death to distribution with diligence and sensitivity. Draft probate applications and handle inheritance tax calculations. Complete post-death tax planning, income tax, and capital gains tax submissions. Manage ongoing administration of Will Trusts. Support preliminary contentious probate matters and liaise with external counsel.
- Client Care and Relationship Management: Provide compassionate support to bereaved families, including post-death arrangements. Liaise with relatives, collect documentation, and secure valuables. Maintain long-term engagement with legacy clients throughout the process. Act as a trusted executor for legacy donors.
- Technical Legal Work: Draft and advise on Lasting Powers of Attorney. Validate legacies and ensure legal compliance. Maintain and update the Department’s legal resources. Stay informed on developments in wills, trusts, estate administration, and taxation law.
- Contribution to Departmental Growth: Participate in marketing activities and client outreach initiatives. Build strong relationships with other beneficiary charities. Contribute to the goals and ongoing development of the Legacy Department.
- Up to 3 years’ post-qualification experience as a solicitor or legal executive is essential.
- Demonstrable working knowledge of Wills, Trusts, and Powers of Attorney.
- Ability to prepare clear and accurate capital and income accounts.
- Excellent organisational and file management skills.
- Ability to work to deadlines and manage competing priorities.
- Collaborative team player with initiative and self-motivation.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
- Compassion, patience, discretion, and sensitivity when dealing with clients.
- Commitment to confidentiality and professional ethics.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and operating CRM systems, such as Salesforce.
- Knowledge (or willingness to learn) about Jewish customs and practices around bereavement.
- Office-based Monday to Thursday, 09:00 – 17:30; Fridays finish early.
- 20 days holiday + 8 bank holidays + Jewish festivals when the office is closed.
- Subject to an Enhanced Disclosure Application (DBS).
