Reporting to the Head of Science, Education, and Outreach, this role will lead and support educational and engagement activities across multiple community segments—especially school and university students—with a focus on Jewish genetic disorder awareness and screening. The successful candidate will have the ability to clearly and confidently communicate genetics concepts, inspire action, and develop trusted relationships across a wide range of audiences. While the main focus will be on Jnetics’ Recessive Carrier Screening programme, there will also be involvement with BRCA (Hereditary Cancer Gene) outreach.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver educational sessions to Jewish Year 12 students through the Jnetics in Schools programme in both formal and informal settings.
  • Run educational sessions for parents of Year 12 students.
  • Lead education and engagement activities for Jewish university students through the Jnetics on Campus programme—including events, campaigns, social media, and direct outreach. This will require travel around screening campaigns.
  • Support education and engagement of Jewish young professionals (YPs) via events, digital campaigns, and partnerships with synagogues, community groups, and workplaces.
  • Develop new initiatives and educational content to expand Jnetics' reach, respond to community needs, and ensure materials remain engaging, inclusive, and scientifically accurate.

Community & Professional Engagement:

  • Assist in educating Jewish religious leaders, such as rabbis, rebbetzens, communal leaders and kallah/chatan (bride/groom) teachers, about Jewish genetic risks and screening.
  • Support outreach and education of relevant healthcare professionals (e.g. GPs, midwives) and collaborate with academic institutions and researchers to amplify awareness of Jewish genetic health.
  • Promote and support awareness and education across the wider community using social media, PR, advertising, and events like GENEuary.

Science & Support:

  • Respond to queries about recessive disorders and screening services via phone and email, with sensitivity and professionalism.
  • Support science and research activities by contributing to studies, data collection, or liaising with researchers.
  • Participate in and support genetic screening events held in schools, universities, and the wider community.

Monitoring & Improvement:

  • Track, analyse, and evaluate the effectiveness of all education and engagement initiatives, using data to inform continuous improvement.
