Mott MacDonald Bentley is recruiting for a Quantity Surveyor to join the Strategic Pipeline Alliance (SPA).

The 330km Strategic Pipeline Alliance (SPA) Project by Anglian Water is under construction and will be completed during AMP8. Beyond this, there are a further 260km of water transfer pipelines and associated infrastructure to be delivered in AMP8.

What will you be doing as our new Quantity Surveyor?

You will be accountable to the Managing QS/Senior QS for the commercial and cost management of a large project (£50m+) from inception through to close out. Your responsibilities include controlling costs, maximising value, minimising liabilities, maintaining quality and safety standards, ensuring efficiency, and compliance with governance procedures.

You will work as part of an integrated delivery team providing commercial challenge and recommending actions to improve performance.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist the estimating team to provide robust estimates aligned with scope, including risk and opportunity analysis, data transfer to procurement systems, and cost base management.
  • Provide commercial support to delivery management and on-site teams, ensuring proper contract management and compliance.
  • Work closely with procurement, construction, and assembly teams to develop and monitor procurement strategies.
  • Attend site regularly to ensure awareness and management of allowances and outputs, providing challenge and communicating changes.
  • Forecast costs accurately, considering the programme, and report according to work and cost structures.
  • Monitor and assess costs against baseline and progress, reporting variances and resolutions weekly or as agreed.
  • Reflect efficiencies in reporting tools and ensure timely records of deliveries.
  • Ensure project team members understand contractual arrangements and assist with risk mitigation plans.

Skills, experience, and behaviours:

  • Degree in construction or commercial management
  • Professional qualification (e.g., RIC, CIOB, ICE)
  • Understanding of NEC3 contracts
  • Experience in complex matrix team environments
  • Knowledge of construction and contract law
  • Full UK driving license
  • Effective communication, organization, and analytical skills
