Mott MacDonald Bentley is recruiting for a Construction Environmental Manager to join the Strategic Pipeline Alliance (SPA).
The 330km SPA Project by Anglian Water is currently under construction and will be completed during AMP8. Additionally, there are plans to deliver a further 260km of water transfer pipelines and associated infrastructure in AMP8.
What will you be doing as our new Construction Environmental Manager?
You will support the SPA Environmental Manager and Enabling Team in delivering strategic priorities for the SPA project.
Your responsibilities will include ensuring all relevant consents, licences, and environmental permits are obtained for pipeline construction; developing and reviewing Construction Environmental Management Plans and Environmental Impact Assessments; and working collaboratively across SPA to ensure compliance with the Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) throughout delivery milestones. You will also support Environmental Advisors in providing guidance to delivery teams.
Key responsibilities:
- Respond promptly to emerging environmental risks.
- Consult with regulators and stakeholders; prepare and submit necessary consent, licence, and permit applications.
- Develop and review environmental management plans and impact assessments to support project delivery.
- Manage environmental risks and ensure compliance with CEMP requirements.
- Develop and deliver training on environmental risk management.
- Support construction teams in managing environmental risks; manage 1-2 Environmental Advisors.
- Identify best practices and process improvements.
- Conduct inspections and audits for compliance.
- Lead and support environmental incident investigations.
- Identify training needs and develop upskilling programs.
Skills, experience, and behaviors:
- Experience in environmental permitting, licensing, and consenting processes.
- Experience with environmental incident investigations.
- Background in construction, particularly utilities (water).
- Knowledge of contaminated land, statutory nuisance, waste management, and ecology.
- Degree in an environmental-related subject.
- Membership of a relevant professional body and knowledge of key legislation.
- Data analysis skills.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
- Experience in report writing and dashboard creation.
- Full clean UK driving license.
Location: Hybrid work from SPA construction site offices across the Anglian Water region (minimum 3 days on site/week) and home.
