The team supports the entire company, including operational teams, in ensuring that Mott Mac Donald Bentley work safely, avoid environmental harm, safeguard the occupational health of our employees and deliver quality projects to our clients.

As a Lead SHEQ Advisor you will be joining our established team, working within the water sector in partnership with various clients.

This role will give the right candidate a great balance between exercising and monitoring high standards of occupational health and safety, also focussing on human factors as part of our behavioural safety leadership programme.

As Lead SHEQ Advisor you will

  • Act as the senior contact for Client SHEQ requirements.
  • Liaise with the Operations Director and Managers to ensure SHEQ support is focused on key operational areas, activities, and the appropriate staff/teams.
  • Serve as the principal contact for SHEQ incidents, ensuring incident trends are communicated and investigations are appropriate and completed.
  • Owner SHEQ performance measures, ensuring compliance with SHEQ Support visit frequencies, identifying high‑risk projects for enhanced support, and reporting performance metrics to Operations Directors (including poor performance for improvement and good performance for recognition such as Be‑Recognised).
  • Liaise with Project Delivery Teams across design and construction, ensuring SHEQ attendance at design reviews, QES 3 readiness meetings, and CM/SM meetings.
  • Provide relevant SHEQ information to the HS&E Executive.
  • Support and promote the Health & Safety Strategy by monitoring and encouraging Talk Safe and Talk Green participation, collaborating with department heads to promote the I Care initiative, and engaging key suppliers to improve understanding of JNB Operational Safety Standards and I Care expectations.
  • Help develop and promote the High Energy Hazard programme.
  • Foster innovation within the unit SHEQ team.
  • Ensure robust induction delivery.
  • Support team development by reviewing training needs, development pathways, and wider opportunities.

  • Authoring BMS instructions documents.

What you’ll need

  • Experience of construction practices and associated health and safety challenges.
  • Achieved, or currently working towards, Chartership.
  • Management experience with a proven record of effective client liaison.
  • Strong organisational and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with team members and stakeholders.
  • A valid driving licence and willingness to travel to sites across your operational region.
  • Experience in workflow coordination.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations and completing RCA close‑outs.
  • Ability to mentor junior team members.
  • Experience allocating project responsibilities.
  • Competence in performance monitoring and providing performance data.
  • Experience creating guidance documents.
