JMW’s Personal Injury department are looking for an experienced Paralegal to join their Road Traffic Accidents (RTA) team. This is an exciting opportunity to work alongside recognised lawyers who possess a wealth of knowledge and experience in handling road traffic accident cases, from car and motorcycle accidents, to hit and runs and cases involving other vulnerable road users. Our RTA team understand that every road traffic accident claim is unique and comes with its own set of circumstances and challenges, with injuries ranging from soft tissue cases to serious, life-changing fractures and the like. We are committed to achieving the best possible outcomes, drawing on our team’s in‑depth understanding of road traffic legislation and insurance policies to ensure that clients receive tailored, expert legal advice. Over decades of success, the department has received recognition from numerous legal institutions, including being ranked in band 1 for personal injury work in the Northwest for both Chambers and Partners and the Legal 500. Each year, we secure millions of pounds in compensation for clients across the UK by taking positive action on their behalf and presenting the strongest possible case.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting our team of fee earners, assisting them with the smooth and efficient running of their caseloads day‑to‑day.
- Drafting of client and witness statements.
- Preparing instructions to medical experts and counsel.
- Preparing court documents.
- Reviewing and collating medical records.
- Reviewing medical reports.
- Researching case law on liability and quantum.
- Liaising with clients and updating on case progress.
- Preparing court bundles.
- Dealing with billing and disbursement payments.
- Attending conferences with counsel and hearings and taking detailed notes.
- Providing updates to clients.
- General file administration.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Working knowledge of legal principles and court procedures in relation to road traffic and personal injury law.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Legal analysis and research skills.
- An ability to manage your time and workload efficiently.
- Demonstrable ability to think ahead and anticipate next steps.
- Empathy and a focus on delivering outstanding client service.
- Experience of the RTA portal and Proclaim Case Management System would be advantageous but is not essential, as training will be provided.
