To enable us to deliver the right outcomes to our clients we need effective and efficient paralegals who can support our qualified fee earners on matters. Responsible for a wide range of general, administrative, and other legal services related tasks, our paralegal role supports experienced solicitors and needs to have exceptional attention to detail and to maintain a very high standard when preparing emails, letters, reports and other documents. The role also involves seeking and progressing requests for medical and other crucial records. Key Responsibilities
- Provide an effective, timely and efficient service to the firm’s clients in order to maintain high client satisfaction and compliance with relevant legislation, legal procedure and internal procedures.
- Communicate with colleagues and clients of the firm in a professional and courteous manner.
- Create and maintain accurate and up-to-date records (both physical and electronic) of work done on legal matters in the firm’s case management system.
- Assisting conducting solicitor in a wide range of case-based tasks including to progress clinical negligence cases at all stages.
- Assisting with requesting and seeking medical records and ensure all records obtained to fully investigate a case.
- On occasion sorting and paginating medical records and to prepare chronologies and reviews to help identify the issues in relation to clinical negligence cases in terms of breach of duty, causation and quantum.
- Preparation of witness statements.
- Preparation of instructions to medical experts and counsel, assisting with updating experts and arranging appointments.
- Attending conferences with Counsel and progressing matters after conference.
- Assisting with preparation of court documents.
- Deliver time recording accurately and promptly.
- Ensure compliance with the SRA Accounts Rules.
- Ensure compliance with JMW’s internal policies and guidelines.
This is a full-time role (35 hours a week) that will be fully office based while you settle into the team during the probationary period, with the option to work from home up to three days a week thereafter.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- A knowledge of the law and practices applicable to Clinical Negligence work, whether through previous relevant paralegal experience or through legal studies.
- Excellent IT skills particularly with experience in Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Attention to detail and careful presentation of written work to be checked.
- Ability to undertake the appropriate research.
- Ability to communicate well orally and in writing, including dealing directly with clients when required.
- Strong team working ethic.
- Ability to work well under pressure and be proactive.
- Strong academic background (please include your grades in your application).
