Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join the engineering team. In this role, you will take the lead in designing custom automation and robotic systems, managing projects from initial concept through to manufacture and installation. You’ll play a key part in shaping technically advanced solutions that solve real-world problems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design of bespoke automation equipment and robotic systems.
  • Produce detailed 3D models, manufacturing drawings, and BOMs using SolidWorks.
  • Collaborate with software, electrical, and controls engineers to ensure integrated design solutions.
  • Conduct technical reviews, risk assessments, and ensure compliance with relevant safety and industry standards.
  • Provide mentorship to junior design engineers and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Liaise with project managers, suppliers, and clients to ensure project requirements are met on time and within budget.
  • Support factory acceptance testing, site installation, and commissioning as required.

What We’re Looking For

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent (HND/HNC with experience considered).
  • 5+ years’ experience in mechanical design engineering, ideally within automation, machinery, or special purpose equipment.
  • Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks and design for manufacture (DFM/DFA).
  • Strong understanding of materials, mechanisms, pneumatics, and motion systems.
  • Experience with CE marking, machinery directives, and risk assessments.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to lead projects and manage multiple design workstreams effectively.
