KFCA is a community-led, anchor organisation formed in 1999 by a group of local residents. A registered charity, we manage Kensington Fields Community Centre and serve the community of Kensington and surrounding areas. Our aim is to alleviate poverty, enhance living conditions, and support people to live healthier lives. We work collaboratively with local partners to advance education and improve wellbeing. Our welcoming Community Centre is a hive of activity, offering:
- Children Activities and Playschemes
- Social Activities for older neighbours
- Kensington Your Local Pantry
- Children\’s Library and literacy projects
We are located close to the new Royal Liverpool Hospital and Knowledge Quarter, serving Kensington and the wider North Liverpool area.
This volunteer role supports KFCA\’s sessions both at our centre and in the neighbourhood. We deliver weekly sessions to help local people get online and access digital tools, training, skills, and resources. Some participants are new to using computers or devices, while others simply need access to laptops and Wi-Fi.
KFCA is a member of the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority Digital Inclusion Network.
Working under supervision, volunteers will:
- Assist in delivering drop-in sessions for first-time online users
- Support sessions on specific topics using session plans and workshops
- Share IT knowledge and expertise to help with issues like setting up email, writing CVs, downloading apps, and online safety
- Help allocate data via free SIM cards
- Assist with setting up IT sessions, including arranging tables, chairs, refreshments, and equipment
- Suggest new activities to enhance digital inclusion
- Support charity staff in improving their IT and digital skills
We especially welcome students studying digital, social justice, political studies, community engagement, or civic involvement, who possess strong digital skills and wish to share their knowledge.
Role requirements:
- Excellent knowledge of common IT packages such as Windows, Safari, Microsoft 365, and social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X)
- Confidence in communicating with the public, staff, and fellow volunteers
- Respect for diverse cultures and backgrounds
- Good spoken English
- Good timekeeping and organization skills
- Friendly attitude
- Willingness to undertake further training, e.g., digital champion courses (travel and food costs covered)
This role does not require a DBS check.
Ideal candidates are students in computer/digital science, social justice, political studies, community engagement, or civic involvement, with strong digital skills they wish to share.
We reimburse travel costs, provide free food and refreshments, and offer free parking if needed.
This role supports KFCA\’s weekly sessions to help local people get online and access digital tools, resources, and training, including those who are new to technology or simply need internet access.
