Swan Women's Centre’s Befriending Service is here to help women over 18 years old in Sefton who have become lonely or isolated due to barriers caused by poor mental health and emotional wellbeing. We’re proud to have achieved the Excellence standard in the Quality in Befriending Award, reflecting our commitment to ethical and impactful work. This means volunteer Befrienders join a trusted programme where their time and efforts truly make a difference.
Our volunteer Befrienders will support women in Sefton who are unable to fully engage in their community and who would like to take steps towards socialising and accessing services independently. We offer support and ongoing training to all volunteers to prepare them for their role and enable them to develop new skills.
Volunteers are expected to have weekly contact with the woman and be committed to them for 12 months. By contact, we mean:
- Meeting for a coffee
- Company during activities or hobbies
- Finding positive social activities
- Help with using public transport or going shopping
- Attending medical appointments or appointments regarding welfare benefits
Required Role Key responsibilities
We are looking for new, enthusiastic and reliable female volunteers who want to make a positive difference in another woman’s life. Volunteers are expected to have weekly contact with the supported woman and be committed to them for 12 months, supporting them to re-engage in their community.
