JMP Selection's client, a leading mechanical and electrical assembly business, is seeking an experienced operations director to lead day-to-day manufacturing operations within a busy production environment. Starting immediately and for an initial 6 months, this is a senior, hands-on leadership role responsible for delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality production output in line with customer requirements, engineering specifications, delivery schedules, and business performance targets as well as holding responsibility for after sales. Key Responsibilities Lead, motivate, coach, and develop Team Leaders and the wider production workforce to achieve agreed operational targets. Take ownership of daily, weekly, and monthly production performance, ensuring products are manufactured and assembled safely, efficiently, on time, within budget, and to required quality standards. Plan and coordinate labour, resources, workflows, and priorities to meet production schedules and customer delivery commitments. Drive a strong health, safety, environmental, and quality culture across all production areas, ensuring compliance with procedures and regulatory requirements. Work closely with Engineering, Scheduling, Quality, Procurement, Stores, Logistics, Maintenance, and Project teams to resolve constraints and improve operational flow. Monitor key performance indicators including safety, quality, delivery, productivity, labour efficiency, rework, waste, and absence rates. Identify production risks, bottlenecks, skills gaps, material shortages, quality issues, and capacity constraints, implementing corrective actions as required. Champion continuous improvement initiatives, Lean Manufacturing principles, root-cause analysis, and waste reduction activities. Ensure Team Leaders conduct effective daily briefings, allocate resources appropriately, and support employee engagement and performance management. Essential Criteria Proven experience as an Operations Manager, or similar senior production leadership role within an electrical/mechanical assembly environment. Experience leading production teams through supervisors, Team Leaders, or line managers.
