Our client is a leading provider of innovative construction solutions, committed to delivering high-quality and sustainable projects across multiple sectors. We are looking for a highly skilled MEP Design Manager to join our client's team in Wales, where you will be responsible for managing and overseeing the MEP design elements of exciting projects.
Role Overview:
The MEP Design Manager will be responsible for managing the MEP design elements and interfaces of specific tasks or projects, ensuring that design requirements are fully understood and met. You will be accountable for ensuring the design is delivered on time, within budget, and of the highest quality, while also managing key processes such as risk management, design change tracking, and compliance with health, safety, and sustainability standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage MEP design elements and interfaces for projects, depending on the size and complexity.
- Ensure the design is aligned with tender/project requirements, meeting both program timelines and budget constraints while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Follow and implement MEP design management procedures, including the creation and maintenance of key project documents such as DRM, design programme, RFI schedule, MIDP, IRS, statutory condition trackers, design change and risk trackers.
- Take ownership of design-related tasks within the tender and construction phases, including the creation of written narratives and presentation materials.
- Play an active role in the selection of the design team, including the preparation of design team appointments (consultants and subcontractors).
- Manage and resolve strategic design items in accordance with company procedures and ensure compliance with planning, building control (BCAR), third-party requirements, and brand guidelines.
- Ensure that all design aspects are in line with health and safety standards, sustainability objectives, and quality requirements.
- Work closely with the site team (including QS) to explore alternative design solutions, including Modern Methods of Construction (MMC).
- Utilize technologies like CDE, BIM, and planning software to manage and improve the design process.
- Provide training and guidance on sustainability accreditation and H&S matters.
- Oversee compliance with building regulations, planning permissions, and PSDP procedures.
- Assist in managing commercial and contract procedures to ensure smooth project execution.
Key Requirements:
- Degree Level 6 in Architecture, Engineering, Building Services, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in MEP design management or a similar role, with a proven track record of successfully managing complex projects.
- Strong knowledge of CDE, BIM, and planning software to support the design process.
- Experience with sustainability accreditation, health and safety regulations, and environmental compliance.
- Knowledge of building regulations, BCAR, planning permission procedures, and PSDP processes.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and strong attention to detail.
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with experience in managing teams and collaborating with stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks effectively while meeting deadlines.
- A relevant professional qualification (e.g., Chartered Engineer) is a plus.
