About the Deputy Financial Controller Role

Our client, a respected and award-winning specialist / niche insurance business, is seeking a proactive and experienced Deputy Financial Controller to join their finance and operations team in Brackley, Northamptonshire.

This senior-level finance position offers the opportunity to work closely with the Financial Controller, take on leadership responsibilities, and contribute to the company\'s financial strategy.

Deputy Financial Controller - Key Skills and Experience

  • Education / Professional: Degree level qualification in Accounting, Finance, or an equivalent finance-focused subject and/or a recognised professional finance qualification (e.g. AAT, ACCA, CIMA).
  • Experience: Proven experience working in a finance role at a similar senior level ideally in a comparable business.
  • Technical: Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly advanced Excel (e.g. pivot tables, SUMIF, VLOOKUP).
  • Financial Knowledge: Must have experience interrogating and reconciling accounts across financial systems - asking critical questions, tracing and identifying discrepancies, and resolving them.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the finance team with reporting, credit control, premium and commission payments.
  • Prepare accurate management information (MI) and reports for the Board of Directors.
  • Perform complex reconciliations and journal entries with precision.
  • Collaborate across departments to ensure smooth financial operations.
  • Deputise for the Financial Controller as required.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to strengthen financial controls.

Work Schedule and Hybrid Working

  • Full-time, Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM, 1 hour for lunch.
  • Fully office-based in Brackley for the first 2-3 months (depending on the individual\'s needs and those of the business) to build knowledge of the role, team, and systems.
  • Hybrid working thereafter - typically 3 days from home and 2 days in the office.
  • Candidates must live within approximately 40 minutes of Brackley to allow for occasional short-notice business meetings.

Salary and Benefits

  • Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 per annum (DOE)
