Exciting Planning Lawyer Opportunity (3+ PQE) – Cardiff

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Planning Solicitor with 3+ years PQE to join a national team based in Cardiff. This firm is highly regarded for its work with a diverse client base, including residential and mixed-use developers, leading retailers, corporate occupiers, charities, investors, NHS, local authorities, and government bodies.

As a Planning Lawyer, you will provide strategic and tactical advice on securing planning permissions, drafting and negotiating statutory agreements, and undertaking due diligence related to planning aspects of real estate, funding, and corporate transactions. You will be involved in advising on special protection areas, Assets of Community Value, and Village Greens, auditing planning application documents, committee reports, and assisting with risk management, appeals, judicial reviews, and enforcement. Your role will also include highways advice, and a solid understanding of EIA, CIL, and GLA planning will be essential.

This role offers the opportunity to build and manage your own caseload while working closely with senior colleagues on a wide range of development-related matters. You\’ll be encouraged to participate in business development and marketing activities, with support in developing your network both internally and externally.

Skills & Experience Required:

Qualified to practice in England and Wales with a minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience.

Extensive experience in planning and highways law.

Proven experience in drafting complex s.106 Agreements, highway agreements, land development agreements, and planning due diligence reports.

Experience in planning-led regeneration projects, planning judicial reviews, conducting planning appeals, and presenting at planning committees.

Strong technical expertise and analytical skills.

A track record of successful practice development and excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal matters to clients without a legal background.
