Firm: Specialist Family Law Practice | UK Presence | Growing Scottish Team

Salary: Generous Salary + Excellent Benefits

This is more than an opportunity to take on increasingly complex work; it's the chance to join a boutique Family firm where your experience carries real influence and where you can play a meaningful role in shaping both the practice and your own career.

The team has clear plans for growth across Scotland, not just Edinburgh, and is looking for a Senior Associate who wants to be part of that journey rather than simply slot into an established structure.

You will bring your existing Family Law expertise into a role with responsibility, managing a varied caseload of financial and children matters while acting as a senior point of contact for clients and colleagues. You will be trusted to run your matters with a high degree of autonomy, supported by a wider team when you need it.

The role is particularly suited to someone who has reached the point in their career where progression, influence and the ability to make a difference matter as much as the quality of the work itself.

As a Senior Associate, you will also have an important role in the development of those around you. You will work alongside Partners to support junior solicitors and trainees, share your knowledge and help create the kind of team environment where people can develop and perform at their best.

The firm is continuing to build its presence across Scotland, creating opportunities for experienced lawyers to play a meaningful part in that growth. There is scope to become increasingly involved in client development, networking and profile-building, with the support and resources to help you turn relationships into a long-term practice.

The Work

  • Managing a varied caseload of Family Law matters, while also having the opportunity to develop your niche
  • Taking ownership of complex matters with a high degree of autonomy
  • Providing clear, empathetic and commercially aware advice to clients
  • Supporting and mentoring junior solicitors and trainees
  • Contributing to business development, networking and profile-raising activity
  • Supporting the continued growth and development of the Scottish practice

Your Experience

  • Scots-qualified Family Lawyer with 4+ PQE
  • Confident managing your own caseload independently
  • Comfortable advising clients through sensitive and often complex circumstances
  • Strong technical ability and attention to detail
  • Commercially minded with an understanding of the importance of client development
  • Ambitious and motivated by the opportunity to help build something longer-term

Why This Role?

  • Join a specialist Family Law practice with ambitious plans for Scottish growth
  • Opportunity to influence the development of the team and wider practice
  • Work alongside experienced Family Lawyers and Partners
  • Build on an existing client base while developing your own profile
  • Strong focus on professional development and career progression
  • A collaborative, supportive and people-focused environment
  • Flexible working and a strong focus on sustainable performance

If you'd like to discuss the role confidentially, please contact Tilly Scott on 0131 460 7747 or tilly@jmc-legal.com.
