The Role & The Work

This is an opportunity to join one of Scotland's most respected Rural teams at a time when both the practice and the sector itself are evolving. Stepping into this Tier 1 ranked department, you'll work closely with Partners who are recognised leaders in the rural, land and estates space, giving you immediate exposure to high-quality work and the kind of insight that shapes strong long‑term careers.

From the outset, you'll be trusted with meaningful involvement across a broad spread of rural property matters, building both technical expertise and commercial awareness as your experience develops. Your work will include the sale and purchase of farms, forestry and estates, alongside advising on agricultural tenancies, partnership arrangements and succession planning. As the rural market continues to shift, you'll also gain exposure to forward‑looking areas such as natural capital transactions and renewable energy projects, ensuring your practice reflects where the sector is heading rather than where it has been.

As you grow into the role, you'll take on increasing ownership of matters and develop direct relationships with clients, becoming part of the trusted advisory network that supports landowners, estates and rural businesses over the long term. Throughout this progression, you'll be supported by senior lawyers who value clear thinking, initiative and independence, offering guidance while giving you the space to shape how you practise and where you focus your expertise. The role offers genuine agency.

As the department continues to develop, you'll have the chance to influence how the practice grows, deepen your knowledge in the areas that interest you most and position yourself as a recognised rural specialist within a highly regarded national team. An important thing to note about this role is that the firm is also open to hearing from Commercial Property Solicitors with a genuine interest in the Scottish rural sector, offering the opportunity to align your professional work with your personal passions.

Your Experience

  • A Commercial Property Solicitor with an interest in rural work, or a Rural Solicitor, with 2-5 years' PQE in the property or rural sector
  • Solid grounding in property law is essential; prior rural property experience is advantageous but not required
  • Strong attention to detail, with a clear appreciation of risk, accuracy, and quality of output
  • A confident communicator who can present legal advice clearly and pragmatically to both clients and colleagues
  • Proactive and well organised, able to manage competing priorities and maintain momentum across matters
  • A collaborative team player who is comfortable taking initiative and contributing to the wider success of the team

Why This Role?

  • Join a Tier 1 ranked Rural Property department with a national reputation
  • Work closely with highly regarded Partners known across the Scottish rural sector
  • Exposure to a diverse and evolving workload, including natural capital and renewables
  • Clear scope to shape your practice and influence the future direction of the team
  • Strong platform for long-term progression within a leading Scottish firm
  • Supportive, inclusive environment with a genuine commitment to development and diversity
