About Us
JM Brands has supplied beauty, home fragrance and gifting products for more than 100 years. We supply UK retailers including M&S, Next, Tesco and Boots, and manage everything from concept and design through to manufacturing, delivery and the shelf.
Role Overview
We're looking for an experienced Merchandiser to cover a 12-month maternity leave. You'll lead on home fragrance and also support beauty, working across several of our retail accounts.
You'll own the numbers for your accounts: costings, margin, run-rates, orders and stock. You'll work closely with our product development, product management, design and technical teams, and with our factories in China and Vietnam.
This is a hands-on role. We need someone who can step in quickly, pick up live orders and critical paths, and keep trading on track from day one.
Key Responsibilities
Costings and commercials
- Manage factory costings and customer pricing, including cost and margin decisions, quote sheets and cost catalogues.
- Negotiate costs with factories and agree prices with customers, working to target margins.
Budgeting and trading
- Build and manage seasonal budgets and turnover plans for your accounts.
- Own the run-rates and update the turnover forecast on a regular cycle.
- Spot risks and opportunities early and act on them, for example repeat orders or reducing committed stock.
Orders and supply
- Raise and manage purchase orders with factories and component suppliers.
- Manage componentry, liability and minimum order quantities to keep stock exposure as low as possible.
- Plan production with suppliers and review factory load plans so goods ship on time and in full.
- Keep customer ordering and shipping portals up to date with the right quantities and dates.
- Check factory invoices against purchase orders before they go to accounts.
Systems and reporting
- Keep stock codes, prices, pack sizes and delivery dates accurate in our ERP system (Syspro).
- Produce sales, stock, intake and margin reports for the commercial team.
Working with the team
- Work with product development and product management to keep critical paths on track.
- Attend weekly internal and customer trading meetings.
- Support and guide assistant merchandisers in the team.
- Travel to suppliers in China and Vietnam when needed.
- Hand over a clear, up-to-date position on every account at the end of the cover period.
Skills and Experience
- At least 3 years' experience as a Merchandiser with a supplier or retailer.
- Home fragrance experience is preferred. Beauty or other own-label consumer goods experience is also useful.
- Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups and building trading models.
- Confident with numbers: margin, landed cost, FOB pricing and run-rates.
- Experience of FOB supply and working directly with factories in China and Vietnam.
- Experience using an ERP system. Syspro is a bonus.
- Comfortable negotiating with factories and customers.
- Organised and accurate, able to manage several accounts at once.
- Quick to pick things up and happy to get stuck in from the first week.
