Come and join JLR as a Senior Vehicle Motion Control Engineer, where you'll play a key role in shaping how our vehicles feel, respond, and perform. Working within our Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) function, part of Digital Product Platform Engineering, you'll be at the heart of developing the next generation of intelligent vehicle behaviour – from today's assisted driving features through to the future of automated mobility.

You'll be part of the Vehicle Behaviour and Motion team, a group focused on creating seamless integration between vehicle platforms and digital systems. Here, longitudinal motion control sits alongside broader vehicle dynamics, with responsibility spanning everything from control systems through to motion planning. Using cutting-edge model-based design approaches, the team delivers solutions across ADAS Level 1 to Level 4, contributing directly to the evolution of fully autonomous driving experiences.

In this role, you'll lead on longitudinal motion control system development, taking ownership of requirements, verification and validation, and safety case creation across new programmes. It's an opportunity to work on complex, meaningful engineering challenges, ensuring new features are robustly integrated and deliver the precision, refinement and confidence expected of every JLR vehicle.

WHAT TO EXPECT

In this role, you'll play a key part in delivering high-quality outcomes and supporting the wider team through a range of responsibilities, including:

  • Decompose, derive and allocate L4/5 software requirements, maintaining full bi-lateral traceability across the V-cycle, including reverse engineering from cascades, models, LADs/SADs and existing control strategies.
  • Manage and maintain requirements using tools such as TRM and DOORS, ensuring alignment with functional safety standards (ISO 26262).
  • Define and author test cases, executing system-level verification across rigs, vehicles and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) environments.
  • Lead root cause analysis activities and implement robust, permanent corrective actions.
  • Contribute to system safety case development, producing required functional safety work products and ensuring compliance with automotive standards and processes.
  • Collaborate closely with ADAS and Motion squads to ensure cross-domain compatibility, integration and overall system performance.
  • Work within an Agile environment (Jira/Confluence), liaising with Product Owners, Scrum Masters and technical stakeholders to prioritise delivery and align on technical solutions and milestones.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED

We're looking for someone with the right blend of experience, qualifications, and practical skills, including:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience in a related discipline.
  • Experience in automotive chassis or motion systems, with openness to strong transferable experience from industries such as aerospace.
  • Solid background in systems engineering and requirements management, including change management, version control, and control strategy documentation.
  • Proven experience working within Agile methodologies, using tools such as Jira, Confluence and Lucid.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and effectively engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Experience in structured issue resolution, applying recognised methods such as 8D and Fishbone.
  • Full UK driving licence.

BENEFITS

This role is rewarding in more ways than one. On top of our core offering, you'll do extraordinary work with amazing people. In addition, you can expect a wide range of benefits:

  • Discounted car purchase (open to family members, too).
  • A 52 week maternity leave policy and a 4 week paternity leave policy. Other parental leave policies are available.
  • A competitive pension.
  • A JLR company performance-related bonus.
  • An employee learning scheme providing funding for education, training and other activities which support the development of personal skills and promote lifelong learning.
  • Access to open, employee-led support and social networks.
  • Comprehensive Life Assurance and Income Protection policies.
  • Flexible working.
