Hybrid Working: Hybrid working is potentially available, depending on the area and manager. JLR is a multi-site business, and you’ll be required to spend time working with different departments at several locations.
Overview: Our Digital and Technology Solutions Degree Apprenticeships are aimed at people who have a passion for learning and innovation. In this role you will implement technology solutions aligned to your pathway, develop new products and services, and increase productivity using digital technologies. The programme adheres to Skills England Digital and Technology Solutions Professional standard.
Pathway: Software Engineering - Software is a key component of our future cars. This pathway will show you how to design, build and test ground-breaking software, integrating engineering principles that deliver superior analysis, development and built-in security. You may work in any of the following functional areas: Digital Platform (DP) or Vehicle Platform (VP).
What to Expect: During your apprenticeship you’ll gain hands-on experience, career-building skills and practical knowledge at the forefront of the automotive industry. You’ll be supported by a JLR early careers cohort leader, the university team, and your line manager every step of the way.
Education: You’ll achieve a BSc (Hons) degree in Digital and Technology Solutions developed in conjunction with the University of Warwick. Year 1 – 2: The programme is delivered through a combination of online study, face-to-face lectures, and independent learning each week. You’ll study modules designed to build your essential knowledge, skills, and behaviours, with regular process reviews to ensure you’re getting the support you need. Years 3 – 4: In years 3 and 4 you will complete modules related to your chosen specialism – Software Engineering. Your final year will involve a work-based project as part of your End Point Assessment (EPA). Successful completion of the EPA will award you a Level 6 Apprenticeship, enabling you to take on new responsibilities and make a meaningful impact within the business.
Functional Areas (Optional):
- Digital Platform (DP) – Gaydon: DPP delivers smart, connected, clean vehicles through creativity and design innovation. Projects include complex systems design, electronic hardware and software creation, cabin interior functions, infotainment, connectivity, off-board processing, mobile app design, and more.
- Vehicle Platform Team – Gaydon, Whitley, NAIC, Solihull: The team delivers core systems that define the customer experience, including body interiors, exteriors, chassis, powertrains and accessories. Responsibilities include developing software that runs inside and outside the vehicle, model-based software development, embedded-C and Python coding, DevOps pipelines, and testing, calibration, and validation.
Qualifications: GCSE Maths and English Language at level 5 (C) or higher, plus three additional GCSEs at level 5 (C) or higher, including one STEM subject. A-level Maths at grade C or higher, plus an additional A-level in Physics, Chemistry, Design & Technology, ICT, Computer Science, Economics or Engineering at grade C or higher.
