Join JLR as a Lead Engineer – Battery Structural Test & Data Analysis! We’re looking for an experienced Lead Engineer to play a pivotal role in the continued growth and success of our Battery Structural Testing and Data Analysis function. In this role, you’ll support the day-to-day operation and ongoing development of our state-of-the-art Structural Battery Test Facility. You’ll be part of a dynamic team responsible for running the facility, while also contributing to the evolution of our data analysis methods. A key part of your role will be developing robust processes to ensure that tested units are thoroughly inspected, with all findings clearly documented and presented in a standardised, customer-friendly format. This facility complements a suite of world-class, cutting-edge testing environments and plays a vital role in physical Verification & Validation (V&V)—directly influencing the delivery of some of the world’s most desirable vehicles, including the Range Rover and Defender.

WHAT TO EXPECT

In this role, you’ll play a key part in delivering high-quality outcomes and supporting the wider team through a range of responsibilities, including:

  • Provide hands-on support to engineers and test technicians during the investigation of test specimens, ensuring accurate reporting of results and findings.
  • Assist in the upkeep and continuous improvement of test facilities, including the development and delivery of preventative maintenance programmes.
  • Collaborate with technical lead engineers to troubleshoot and resolve issues arising during test operations, ensuring minimal disruption and high-quality outcomes.
  • Maintain high standards across the facility through the application of quality tools such as TPM and 5S, promoting a clean, efficient, and well-organised working environment.
  • Apply a strong understanding of test rig methodology and structural battery testing requirements to support robust and reliable test execution.
  • Analyse and interpret complex test data—including CAN data—to support informed engineering decisions and continuous product improvement.
  • Champion a culture of safety and continuous improvement, leading by example in health and safety practices, team development, and performance management.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

The ideal candidate will have a strong mix of experience, recognised training, and capabilities such as:

  • Proven ability and willingness to lead and manage a shift-based engineering or testing team.
  • Strong communication skills with a collaborative approach to stakeholder engagement and the ability to build effective working relationships.
  • Experience in workload planning and resource management within a technical or laboratory environment.
  • A solid understanding of physical test laboratory operations, including equipment maintenance, calibration, and data acquisition techniques.
  • Hands-on experience with battery test facilities, ideally involving both structural testing and battery exercising, using techniques related to structural performance and charge/discharge cycles.
  • Familiarity with product development processes, milestone-driven delivery, and the application of lean or quality improvement techniques.
  • Working knowledge of BMS programming or scripting languages, alongside proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant business software.

Creating Modern Luxury requires a modern approach to work. At JLR, hybrid working is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement providing employees more choice and flexibility around how, when and where they work. Some roles require more on-site work, but details of this can be discussed with the hiring manager during the interview stage.

We work hard to nurture a culture that is inclusive and welcoming to all. We understand candidates may require reasonable adjustments during the recruitment process. Please discuss these with your recruiter so we can accommodate your needs. Applicants from all backgrounds are welcome. If you’re unsure that you meet the full criteria of a role – but you’re interested in where it could take you – we still encourage you to apply.
