Job Overview
This role is in support of Data Centre Operations for Proximity Services based at the Slough Data Centre (LO5) where the aim is to deliver service to the best possible standard for all infrastructure and processes managed within the data centre. The Data Centre Technician will be responsible for providing technical assistance and overall support to our customers, delivering 24/7 cover through a 12 hour shift pattern.
Responsibilities
The Data Centre Technician will also be responsible for the installation of racks, housing, network and computer equipment. Each Data Centre Engineer is responsible for managing and implementing installations as required, including shelves, power strips, rails, cable management and customer IT equipment. When required the Technician will identify issues with the hardware or cabling, which can include replacing internal components, testing, tracing and labelling of cabling. The Technician will share responsibility for upholding the Data Centre Standards of tidiness, cleanliness, security, asset information and installations within the computer suites.
The role includes liaising with counterparts within the company's global teams and 3rd party engineers and contractors on hardware related issues and processes. The team also manages a number of unmanned satellite/Pop sites on the Slough campus which are managed remotely; this requires travelling to these sites as operationally required.
Technical requirements include computer engineering experience and knowledge for optimal methods of working, cabling experience and knowledge, installation of rack mount kit including HP, DELL and CISCO hardware, and hardware maintenance such as swapping of failed customer replaceable parts (cache battery, HDD, power supply).
Qualifications and Skills
- ITIL accreditation
- Experience with HP One Service Manager (OSM)
- Must hold a valid UK driving licence
- Flexible in working hours and location
- Highly motivated with a positive and pro‑active attitude
- Ability to act rapidly and logically under pressure and to work with minimal supervision
- Good written and verbal communication skills (English)
- Good working knowledge of Outlook, Word and Excel
- Excellent team skills, ability to listen and contribute to discussions and meetings
- Customer and service focused, with determination to meet their needs
