What your day to day will look like

Programme Management and Leadership

You will have overall responsibility for planning, coordinating, and managing all waste management activities across the Filton site. This includes developing operational strategies, establishing procedures, setting performance targets, and ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of all waste collection, segregation, storage, and disposal operations. You will be accountable for programme effectiveness and continuous improvement initiatives.

Regulatory Compliance and Documentation

Collate, verify and maintain all waste transfer notes and consignment notes, ensuring complete compliance with environmental legislation and duty of care requirements. You will oversee the proper classification and documentation of all waste streams, maintain comprehensive audit trails and ensure the site meets all regulatory obligations for waste management.

Monthly Reporting and Presentations

You will produce detailed monthly waste reports and presentations for site leadership, the UK Waste Programme Manager, and stakeholders, analysing waste performance metrics, tonnage data, cost trends, recycling rates, compliance status, and operational achievements. Your reports will inform strategic decisions and demonstrate programme value and environmental performance.

Contractor Management and Coordination

You will manage relationships with waste contractors, scheduling collections, monitoring service delivery, addressing performance issues, and ensuring contractual obligations are met. You will act as the primary liaison for all waste-related contractor activities, ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient operations.

Health, Safety, and Environmental Standards

Champion a culture of safety across all waste operations, conducting risk assessments, investigating incidents, implementing corrective actions, and ensuring full compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations. You will lead by example, maintaining the highest standards of workplace safety and environmental stewardship.

Operational Problem Solving

You will address operational challenges proactively, resolving logistical issues, managing emergency situations, implementing contingency plans, and ensuring minimal disruption to waste services. Your leadership will be essential in maintaining operational resilience and service continuity.

Stakeholder Communication

You will communicate effectively with the UK Waste Programme Manager, site management, building occupants, contractors, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders, providing expert guidance on waste management matters and building strong collaborative relationships across the organisation.
