Our Energy & Infrastructure Advisory (E&IA) team is a market leader in providing specialist financial advisory services to developers of and investors in renewable energy and infrastructure projects and businesses. We cover a wide range of technologies including solar, wind, battery storage, bioenergy, and wider infrastructure including digital infrastructure, hydrogen, energy from waste, district heating/cooling, and other adjacent technologies across all European markets.

The EMEA team consists of circa 35 people in the UK, Italy, Spain, and Poland, and is part of a dedicated global E&IA practice of circa 70 people, with teams in the US and across APAC. Globally, our practice has completed over 170 transactions with a combined enterprise value exceeding $26 billion, covering 29GW+ of total transacted capacity across 16+ active jurisdictions. Notably, JLL is ranked as Europe's #1 BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems) financial advisor by deal count and volume.

What We Offer

  • M&A Advisory: Sell-side and buy-side advisory for the disposal and acquisition of energy and infrastructure assets and related businesses.
  • Capital Raising: Sourcing development and construction equity under tailored capital structures.
  • Debt Advisory: Raising senior, mezzanine, and HoldCo debt facilities.
  • Valuations & Project Appraisals: Financial modelling, due diligence, and delivering valuation advice to underpin third-party transactions.
  • Strategic Consulting: Commercial, financial, and strategic advice, including market entry strategies, financing structuring, and portfolio strategy.
  • Power Contracting: Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) structuring for generators and strategic advice to off-takers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transaction Support: Support Directors and Managers in advising clients on a variety of high-profile mandates for leading energy and infrastructure projects.
  • Global & European Deal Exposure: Take an active role in high-profile transactions across Europe and globally, leveraging JLL's fully integrated international network.
  • Financial Modelling & Valuation: Develop in-house financial models (including DCF and project finance models) and undertake valuation assignments.
  • Market Research & Analysis: Conduct in-depth research on focal areas such as future growth markets, upcoming technologies (e.g., hydrogen, co-located BESS), and forthcoming policy developments.
  • Client Deliverables: Produce key client deliverables, pitch materials, information memoranda, and complete the underlying analysis to inform these documents.
  • Business Development: Accompany team members to client or investor meetings and assist with identifying and pursuing new business opportunities.
  • Thought Leadership: Develop thought leadership materials, produce sector insights, and research new projects, geographies, or businesses.
  • Team Contribution: Support the growth and development of the E&IA team by taking responsibility for a variety of internal tasks.

Role Requirements

  • Right to Work: Candidate must have the right to work within the UK.
  • M&A Experience: 1-3 years of relevant transaction experience within investment banking, mergers and acquisitions advisory, corporate development, and/or buy-side roles with extensive exposure to transactions. Energy-specific transaction experience is highly desirable, but candidates with strong M&A backgrounds in alternative sectors are encouraged to apply.
  • Advanced Modelling: Robust analytical skills, including the proven ability to develop and analyse detailed Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) models for energy assets and businesses independently. A modelling test will be conducted during the recruitment process to demonstrate this capability.
  • Academic Background: An excellent academic record, including a relevant degree-level qualification in Economics/Finance, Energy, and/or Engineering from a reputable university.
  • Professional Drive: A positive, driven attitude with a desire to improve, a clear appetite to pursue a long-term career in financial services covering energy and infrastructure, and the ability to learn on the job.
  • Communication & Tools: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to work well in a team environment, and experience producing high-quality documents using the full suite of Microsoft Office applications.

Desirable / Professional Development

  • Prior internships or exposure to project finance, infrastructure funds, or renewable energy technologies.
  • CFA Support: Training and support can be provided for successful candidates who wish to participate in the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program. On-the-job coaching and mentoring will also be provided to facilitate upskilling in the renewable energy sector and corporate finance deal structuring.
