The National HSE Manager (projects and engineering services) will report directly to the National Director of Health, Safety & The Environment. The role is predominantly home based with travel to office and sites as required. The post holder will have a matrix reporting line into the relevant Head of Business Unit. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working alongside projects delivery in live working environments and a strong knowledge of construction working practices. A competent environmental manager will be required to ensure sound environmental practices such as waste management control and the development of an effective environmental aspects and impacts register that can be used on all sites.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide professional support to the projects/engineering side of the business with a good understanding of CDM2015, inspections, and collating comprehensive reports for the leadership team to report through to board level.
  • Environmental management and reporting on the aspects and impact registers and building up a satisfactory environment management system.
  • Provide practical experience of all aspects of environmental legislation and requirements.
  • Drive forward improvements and best practice in safety, health and environmental issues across the Integral Group, including delivery of bespoke training and behavioural safety initiatives.
  • Ensure the Integral H&S Culture remains positive and proactive, analysing statistics and developing plans to reduce TRIR and DART in line with company and JLL targets.
  • Carry out site safety audits on sites/engineers across business units, ensuring all H&S standards are adhered to in line with legislation and Integral standards.
  • Develop a remote audit/inspection methodology.
  • Monitor completion of mandatory and core training within business units and prepare bespoke training as required.
  • Provide expertise and support to business unit teams while driving safety forward in the sector.
  • Identify and control key operational risks including whole building risk areas from rooftop to waste extraction.
  • Apply a "One team approach" to ensure actions and behaviours support the HS&E one team approach and communicate effectively to all levels.
  • Work with the Integral Procurement team to ensure subcontracting partners meet safety and environmental compliance KPIs.
  • Collaborate with the National Director of HS&E on sustainability and safety plans, taking lead on client liaison where directed.
  • Interpret new HSE legislation and guidance and prepare new processes with the national HS&E team.
  • Identify additional standards required to meet ongoing occupational health needs of the workforce.
  • Administer the Integral Reporting of Accidents, Occupational Ill Health and Dangerous Occurrence system, ensuring investigations are adequately completed.
  • Produce accident, incident and occupational ill health management information for business and national meetings.
  • Investigate incidents and accidents to ensure lessons are learned.
  • Produce an annual audit and inspection regime for the business unit, looking at building risk and subcontractors.
  • Participate in planned and ad‑hoc HSE meetings (internal and external), including client meetings.
  • Prepare business and individual work locations for external and internal ISO14001, ISO9001 and ISO45001 audits, assisting with the IMS audit programme and ensuring actions are closed out in a timely manner.
  • Provide timely information for management and board reports.
  • Complete safety and environmental project work as identified by the Head of HS&E and National Director of HS&E.
  • Promote ownership of safety and environmental issues with supervisory and management teams.

Essential Qualifications and Skills

  • Member of IOSH or equivalent (working towards Chartered).
  • NEBOSH – General or Construction certification or equivalent.
  • IEMA qualifications in Environmental Management.
  • Engineering/project background.
  • Accident/Incident investigation trained (root cause analysis).
  • Good knowledge and understanding of key H&S legislation, particularly CDM.
  • Strong communication skills and experience of Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.
  • Clean driving licence.
  • Internal auditing of ISO 9001, 14001 & 45001.

  • Asbestos Awareness.
  • Knowledge of Mechanical, Electrical.
