What this job involves:

JLL is seeking a dynamic London Metro & UK Engineering Lead to oversee engineering operations across our critical building portfolio throughout London and the wider UK region. This leadership role requires a strategic thinker who can drive operational excellence while fostering a workplace experience-led culture that puts our clients at the centre of everything we do. The successful candidate will leverage cutting-edge technology and digital solutions to optimise building performance and enhance occupant experiences, with particular focus on delivering exceptional service across three flagship London properties.

What your day will look like:

  • Team Leadership & Management
    • Lead and develop a diverse team of engineers, technicians, and coordinate with external vendors to deliver exceptional service across the UK portfolio.
    • Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture focused on continuous improvement and professional development.
    • Implement strategic workforce planning to ensure optimal resource allocation across multiple sites and client requirements.
  • London-Centric Strategic Operations
    • Develop and execute comprehensive engineering strategies for three key flagship buildings in Central London, each requiring specialized approaches:
    • Premium Grade A Office Tower (City of London): Lead implementation of advanced smart building technologies including AI-driven HVAC optimization, predictive maintenance systems, and integrated workplace experience platforms to support high-density financial services tenants.
    • Mixed-Use Commercial Complex (Canary Wharf): Oversee complex multi-system integration across retail, office, and hospitality spaces, focusing on energy efficiency optimization, coordinated security systems, and seamless tenant experience technologies.
    • Historic Refurbished Corporate Headquarters (West End): Balance heritage preservation requirements with modern engineering standards, implementing discrete technology solutions while maintaining architectural integrity and delivering contemporary workplace amenities.
  • Engineering Operations Excellence
    • Oversee the efficient performance, maintenance, and operations of all engineering systems within client-owned properties.
    • Provide engineer support across Europe when required to ensure asset and building operation.
    • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, building codes, and industry standards across all managed facilities.
    • Drive preventive maintenance programs and implement best practices to maximize system reliability and minimize downtime.
    • Monitor key performance indicators and implement corrective actions to meet or exceed service level agreements.
    • Coordinate with London-specific regulatory bodies including City of London Corporation, local borough councils, and Historic England where applicable.
  • Technology Integration & Digital Innovation
    • Champion the implementation of smart building technologies, IoT sensors, and advanced building management systems to optimize performance.
    • Lead digital transformation initiatives including predictive maintenance programs, automated monitoring systems, and data analytics platforms.
    • Oversee integration of mobile technologies, cloud-based solutions, and digital work order management systems.
    • Drive adoption of emerging technologies such as AI-powered building optimization, virtual reality for training, and augmented reality for maintenance procedures.
    • Collaborate with IT teams to ensure cybersecurity protocols are maintained across all connected building systems.
  • Client Relationship Management
    • Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders and client representatives across the three flagship London properties, serving as the primary engineering contact for strategic accounts.
    • Develop and implement customer-centric service delivery strategies that enhance the overall workplace experience through technology-enabled solutions.
    • Lead regular client meetings, present operational performance reports, and provide technical expertise to support business development initiatives.
    • Demonstrate value through technology-driven insights, real-time performance dashboards, and data-driven recommendations tailored to each building's unique requirements.
  • Strategic Planning & Innovation
    • Develop and execute engineering strategies that align with JLL's broader business objectives and client needs, with emphasis on digital transformation.
    • Create London market-specific approaches that address unique challenges including air quality management, urban heat island effects, and high-density occupancy requirements.
    • Identify opportunities for operational efficiency improvements, cost savings, and technology integration across the flagship portfolio.
    • Stay current with PropTech trends, emerging technologies, and sustainability initiatives relevant to premium London commercial properties.
    • Lead evaluation and implementation of new technologies including energy management systems, occupancy sensors, and automated fault detection.
  • Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Building Services, or related field) or equivalent technical qualification.
    • Minimum 7-10 years of progressive experience in building engineering operations with at least 3-5 years in management roles.
    • Proven track record of managing complex, multi-site engineering operations preferably within London commercial real estate market.
    • Demonstrated experience implementing technology solutions in premium building operations environments.
    • Specific experience with Grade A office buildings and mixed-use developments in major metropolitan areas.

    Technical Expertise:

    • Comprehensive knowledge of building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire safety, security, and building automation systems.
    • Strong understanding of smart building technologies, IoT platforms, and integrated building management systems.
    • Experience with cloud-based maintenance management systems (CMMS), mobile applications, and digital work order platforms.
    • Knowledge of data analytics, performance monitoring software, and energy management technologies.
    • Familiarity with cybersecurity principles as applied to building systems and connected devices.
    • Understanding of London-specific building regulations, planning constraints, and heritage considerations.
    • Strong understanding of energy management principles and sustainability technologies.

    Leadership & Communication Skills:

    • Exceptional leadership abilities with experience managing diverse, geographically dispersed teams in technology-enabled environments.
    • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with ability to present technical and technology concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
    • Proven customer service orientation with experience managing high-profile client relationships in premium commercial properties.
    • Experience working with demanding corporate clients and ability to maintain service excellence under pressure.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Professional engineering certification or chartered status (CEng, IEng).
    • Experience with advanced building technologies such as AI/ML applications, digital twins, or predictive analytics platforms.
    • Project management certification (PMP, PRINCE2) or equivalent experience.
    • Knowledge of BREEAM, LEED, NABERS, or other sustainability certification programs.
    • Familiarity with PropTech solutions and emerging real estate technologies.
    • Experience with enterprise software integration and API management.
    • Understanding of 5G, edge computing, or other emerging connectivity technologies.
    • Previous experience managing flagship properties or portfolio anchor buildings.

    Technology Skills:

    • Proficiency with building management systems (BMS) and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems.
    • Experience with mobile workforce management applications and cloud-based platforms.
    • Knowledge of data visualization tools and business intelligence software.
    • Understanding of network infrastructure, wireless technologies, and system integration protocols.
    • Familiarity with virtual and augmented reality applications in facilities management.
