The Opportunity

We are seeking an exceptional candidate to join our pan-EMEA Debt & Structured Finance team as part of our business growth plan which has been approved by the EMEA Capital Markets Executive Committee.

This is a unique opportunity where we will combine the market-leading Debt Advisory and Energy & Infrastructure Advisory (E&IA) practices at JLL.

JLL’s Debt & Structured Finance team is the market leading debt advisory business in EMEA closing $11.6bn of loans in 2024 with 35 team members. It has historically been focused on real estate but has diversified into real assets and is diversifying further into Energy & Infrastructure. The team works as a single pan-EMEA business from its bases in London, Madrid, Frankfurt and Amsterdam, covering all EMEA territories.

JLL’s E&IA team is a market leading specialist financial advisor to developers and investors in renewable energy and infrastructure across a range of technologies including Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Onshore and Offshore Wind, Bioenergy, Energy Trading, and ancillary infrastructure across EMEA. We are circa 40 professionals, currently with offices in the UK, Italy, Spain and Poland, actively delivering mandates across all EMEA markets.

Together, we are pursuing an ambitious growth strategy in EMEA and now globally – this position will play a critical and exciting part in that journey for EMEA as a core part of our global Capital Markets business.

Job Overview

This role will be responsible for growing the E&IA practice within Debt & Structured Finance through direct business origination and working on the refinement and delivery of our growth strategy. Reporting into the Co-Head, Debt & Structured Finance EMEA and working closely with the Lead – Energy & Infrastructure Advisory, EMEA, they will collaborate closely with colleagues across the EMEA and Global Debt andE&IA and wider Capital Markets teams, leveraging their own network and the strength of the JLL brand to build and nurture client relationships and generate revenue.

This is a vital Director-level role building and running a collegiate, networked and productive Debt practice in Energy & Infrastructure. The role focuses on business generation, for example on major project and development financing; and on idea generation, team and network building. The role must work closely with the E&IA business in EMEA and globally, and wider Capital Marketsteams to provide seamless client advice.

The successful candidate will use their strong client network to build a profitable business, leading a team of specialists in providing expert financial advisory services across various renewable energy and infrastructure sectors. With the addition of our Americas and Asia Pacific E&I businesses and further expansion planned, this is a vital and exciting next step in our growth.

What does the role entail?

Business Generation & Execution, Clients

  • With a whole EMEA scope, win and executeE&IA Debt mandates, driving new business generation with colleagues in Debt, E&IA, Pan-EMEA and GlobalCapital Markets teams

  • Provide expert debt advisory services across various technologies, including Solar PV, BESS, Onshore and Offshore Wind and wider energy transition technologies and related infrastructure

  • Lead and execute Debt financing deals, focused on project and wider financing to generate a multi-million JLL revenue pipeline

  • Broaden JLL EMEA Capital Markets offering through leveraging debt and M&A to embed in our sector offerings wherever relevant for our clients

  • Use relationships and sector insights to generate opportunities through cross selling

  • Grow and maintain a network of clients, contacts, and relationships with investors, intermediaries and market players in the renewable energy and infrastructure sectors

  • Business leadership

  • Work closely with the Co-Head Debt & Structured Finance EMEA and Lead – E&IA EMEA on the Debt and EMEA E&IA strategies to ensure successful implementation

  • Work closely with Global Debt and E&IA colleagues to create and embed an effective global Debt E&I network, integrated to the Global Capital Markets and wider OneJLL platform.

  • Collaborate with the EMEA Debt and E&IA teams on cross-border mandates and contribute to our strategy through driving initiatives to improve our brand positioning, ways of working and information sharing – this is vital to our success and a core part of our team identity

  • Coach and mentor Analysts, upskilling and developing our next generation talent

  • Idea Generation, Intelligence and Thought Leadership

  • Work with Debt,E&IA, Pan-EMEA Capital Markets and territory level Capital Markets colleagues to create and monetise ideas and opportunities for our clients

  • Partner with sector research and strategy leads to provide sector direction for appropriate market leading outputs/analysis

  • Recognise trend and changing market conditions to enable our clients to adapt their strategies to changing environments and capitalise on opportunity, working closely with JLL’s International Capital Coverage team

  • Contribute to JLL thought leadership, presenting to clients, industry forums and events

  • Capture client intelligence in our Salesforce CRM, work closely with E&IA and wider Capital Markets colleagues on deal case studies, research, press articles to build our brand

  • Preferred Skills & Characteristics:

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the Renewables financing market sector and a well-established financial advisor network in renewables EMEA-wide

  • In-depth knowledge of project finance, M&A and capital raisingin the energy and infrastructure sectors

  • Proven track record of sourcing and generating sizeable transactions, running major client relationships, with the ability manage and deliver major transactions across EMEA

  • Thorough Technical knowledge acquired through hands on advice, execution and delivery for clients in your previous roles

  • A collaborative mindset; valuing being part of a high performing team

  • Client-centric approach; an established network of contacts

  • Adaptability and an eye to spot trends in a changing market

  • Ability to communicate and nurture relationships

  • Deep knowledge of international investor strategies

  • High level of understanding of financial concepts, financial statements, and corporate valuation techniques a prerequisite

  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills

  • Logic and creative thinking: able to think around problems, as well as being able to identify opportunities

  • A collaborative, team player who can successfully partner with regional and global colleagues to drive success across the platform
