We are seeking an experienced Senior Field Service Engineer to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair CNC machine tools at customer sites. The successful candidate will provide expert technical support, deliver exceptional customer service, and play a key role in mentoring junior engineers while ensuring maximum machine uptime.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, commission, and service CNC machine tools and associated equipment.
- Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and CNC control faults.
- Perform preventative maintenance, machine alignments, calibrations, and accuracy checks.
- Support machine upgrades, retrofits, and control system modifications.
- Provide emergency breakdown support and technical assistance to customers.
- Complete service reports and maintain accurate maintenance records.
- Deliver customer training on machine operation and basic maintenance.
- Act as a senior technical resource, supporting and mentoring junior engineers.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and company procedures.
- Build strong customer relationships and identify opportunities for additional service and support.
Qualifications & Experience
- Engineering qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or a related discipline (Apprenticeship, NVQ, HNC/HND, or equivalent).
- Minimum 5 years' experience servicing CNC machine tools in a field service environment.
- Strong knowledge of CNC controls, including Fanuc, Siemens, Heidenhain, and Mitsubishi.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, hydraulic diagrams, and mechanical drawings.
- Proven fault-finding skills across electrical and mechanical systems.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel extensively.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with multi-axis machining centres, turning centres, and grinding machines.
- Knowledge of PLC diagnostics, industrial automation, and machine networking.
- Familiarity with laser calibration, ballbar analysis, and machine geometry.
